Kensington racing tips & best bets – Wednesday, 20 May 2020

Archanna horse racing news
Archanna impressed with a winning debut in soggy conditions at Warwick Farm.

The Kensington track at Royal Randwick will have seven metropolitan races run and won on Wednesday afternoon. We’ll be racing on a Soft track with rain around Sydney all week. The rail goes out 5m for the entire circumference, which could benefit leaders earlier in the day and those getting out to the middle of the track later on if it chops up in the inner lanes. The first runners will face the starter at 12:50pm AEST, with the last race coming back to scale at 4:20pm.

Wednesday betting tips for Kensington

Best BetRace 3 – Spaceboy @ $3.40

Gary Portelli’s promising 3yo has been costly for punters, going down as favourite on four occasions before finally breaking through at his 10th start last time around at an unbackable $1.24 at Kembla Grange. Despite taking nearly 18 months to get into the winners’ stall, we think the son of Deep Field can make it back-to-back wins here. Robbie Dolan’s 1.5kg claim gets him down to just 57kg. From gate six, Dolan should be positive and look to lead them a merry dance. Hopefully, class prevails here and Spaceboy can put it all together to give one back to his followers.

Next BestRace 5 – Archanna @ $1.80 Sportsbet

James McDonald and Chris Waller combine in the fifth with the shortest-priced favourite of the day, Archanna at $1.80. The Snitzel filly was simply dominant in her only run to date with a 3.8-length romping on a Heavy track at Warwick Farm. A quick rise to Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 Grade is some query, but we cannot ignore her maiden win and the jockey/trainer combo is very hard to look past. From barrier seven, we expect her to get back and finish over the top again.

Best ValueRace 1 – Head Legislator @ $3.90

No great value here, but we have picked one up from the trials that looks to have it all put together for his debut. Matthew Dunn’s Head Legislator has been the benefactor of three good trials (3:1-1-1) and gets the expert guidance of Kerrin McEvoy. He should ping the lids and use the inside gate to rail up and lead the field up. He has over-raced a touch in his trials, so the cross-over nose band goes on to help him settle. Vinery Stud retained a share in the Headwater colt and his latest trial win suggests the 2yo can get up on debut.
