Kathy O’Hara out for up to three months

Jockey Kathy O’Hara will be sidelined for up to three months as she recovers from an injury suffered in a fall at Randwick.

O’Hara underwent surgery on Thursday night on her sternoclavicular joint after originally hoping to leave hospital earlier in the week.

Racing NSW doctor David Duckworth, who performed the operation, said he had to reduce and reconstruct the joint dislocation.

He said O’Hara would be in a sling for four weeks and out of racing for between eight to 12 weeks.

O’Hara came off Single Gaze at the home turn in last Saturday’s Australian Oaks.

The filly fell on top of the rider with stewards saying O’Hara’s safety vest could well have saved her life.
