Just Dreaming does it her way at Rosehill

Kris Lees runs a big stable at Newcastle but few of his charges are as game as Just Dreaming.

After wining the Australian Turf Club Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday, the filly has had four victories from eight starts, prompting talk of bigger targets in her four-year-old season.

Lees knows she is a winner but the manner in which she does it impresses him.

After tracking the leader and favourite Arbeitsam ($2.30), Just Dreaming held off the challengers from behind to beat Insensata by a head, with High Mist ($8) another short neck in third.

Arbeitsam weakened to finish seventh.

“She is building up a good record and fought back to win in a race with speed on suiting the ones behind,” Lees said.

“Her last 50 metres, she can look beaten but she fights.

“I don’t want to throw her to the wolves yet but we could look at a race like the Coolmore Classic in the autumn.”

Her jockey Tommy Berry was equally impressed.

“She was there to be beaten but she never gives up,” he said.

“I know her pretty well and she likes to do it the tough way.”
