Jockey John Allen will need one meeting shaved off a careless riding suspension to ride on Victoria Derby day.

Allen was banned for eight meetings at Geelong on Wednesday which is due to begin after Saturday’s Cox Plate meeting at Moonee Valley.

But he has an appeal hearing against the severity of the penalty on Friday morning.

As it stands his suspension runs from after the Cox Plate meeting until after the Victoria Derby meeting at Flemington on Saturday week.

Allen will ride Kings Will Dream in Saturday’s Cox Plate and his Moonee Valley rides also include VRC Oaks favourite Verry Elleegant in the Group Two Vase.
