Jet Setting grounds Minding in Guineas

Bargain buy Jet Setting has upset the odds-on favourite Minding to win the Irish 1000 Guineas for fledgling trainer Adrian Keatley.

Minding sustained a minor injury when she hit her head on the starting gate but trainer Aidan O’Brien did not use that as an excuse for the English 1000 Guineas winner.

“Obviously we’re disappointed she got beat, and obviously it (hitting her head) wasn’t an advantage, but she ran well,” O’Brien said.

“The poor thing will have a headache, any way.

“We won’t take away from the other filly, though. The winner is a good filly and was very well trained by Adrian.”

Keatley took out his licence in 2014 while Jet Setter came to him after she was bought for 12,000 guineas ($A25,000) from the Richard Hannon yard last year.

The owners paid 30,000 euro ($A46,497) to put Jet Setter in the Group One race as a late entry.

“It’s a dream, really, but miracles happen,” Keatley said.

“She was a cheap purchase at 12,000 last October.

“We were delighted when the rain came as it allowed her to do the business.

“Hopefully this will help us get bigger, better and more competitive so we don’t have to keep going to Ayr every Monday!

“I don’t know what’s next. I didn’t look beyond this.”

RaceBets eased Minding to evens from 4-7 for Epsom Oaks on Friday week but O’Brien is hopeful she will recover in time to make the trip.

“She’ll get an easy week now and if she’s well she could go to Epsom,” he said.
