FIVE-YEAR-OLD mare Itellyouonething has gone back-to-back on the first two days of the Hawke’s Bay spring carnival when winning Saturday’s Bostock New Zealand Spring Carnival R65.

The small-framed daughter of Brilliance scored a narrow win on Tarzino Trophy day at odds of $20, but punters didn’t let it slip this time around. It paid $5.70 at CrownBet.com.au and it was able to see out the staying distance best down the Hastings straight.

Stable representative Stephen Rauhihi (partner to trainer Suzy Gordon) was thrilled with the result and Itellyouonething is definitely his favourite horse at the moment.

“She is my favourite horse and it was good to see her get up today,” Ruahihi said. “It was a big effort from last time.

“When the rain came I was happy.”

On a premier card which features the Group 1 Windsor Park Plate, Ruahihi was happy to be a part of the festivities on such a big day.

“It’s just unbelievable to win a race on these days,” he said. “Against the big boys and big girls… it’s pretty hard to win a race here.”

Suzy Gordon was unable to attend the meeting and that prompted Ruahihi to consider taking over the training role.

“She’s at home looking after the kids, she’s on kid duty,” Ruahihi said.

“I think I might have to start training them.”

Winning jockey Madan Singh has had a successful start to the season which has now included five wins. Singh wasn’t ready to admit that Itellyouonething, but it’s getting close.

“This horse to win two in a row… she’s quite an exciting horse,” Singh said. “Not yet, but this one definitely has a good future.

“I’ve ridden some quite nice horses and hopefully this one comes well over the summer.”
