Ipswich treble adds to Matt Dunn’s haul

Trainer Matt Dunn’s impression run of form continued when he landed his 15th winner in the past three weeks with a treble at Ipswich.

Dunn won with Sky Heart ($13), Flying Charger ($2.40) and Groovy Gal ($2.10) on Wednesday to give him nine metropolitan winners since the start of April.

His 15 winners overall have lifted him to 69 for the season which puts him in the top 20 on the Australian premiership.

Dunn has had four trebles and a double in that period, winning on four different tracks – Ipswich, Doomben, Murwillumbah and Grafton.

“We are having a really good run and it is not by accident as there is a lot of hard work behind it. It is a credit to my team,” Dunn said.

“Groovy Gal will go to the Listed Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast in a fortnight. I think she is up to that class because if things had gone right she would a have won a good race by now.

“We took a while to work out how to ride Sky Heart who needs to be ridden quietly while Flying Charger has also found his level.”

Dunn also had a third placing with Hanwritten ($1.90) who engaged in speed battle with eventual winner Fortini ($16) who gave trainer a trainer Robert Heathcote a double.

“I just spoke to Rob who is watching in Hong Kong and we will head to a Saturday race now,” stable foreman Mike O’Leary said.

Jockey Jeff Lloyd again showed his toughness when bouncing back to ride a double after a fall before the first race from odds-on favourite Venetian Beauty, who was scratched.

Lloyd scored on Jomar’s Element ($4.60), for Heathcote, and Sky Heart for Dunn.

Jockey Jim Byrne also rode a double on Groovy Gal and Camouflage ($7) to move to the equal lead in the metropolitan premiership with Jim Orman on 57 winners.
