Ipswich racing preview & betting tips

Racing in Queensland on Wednesday heads west to Ipswich for just the seven races. The track is rated a Good 4, and the rail has been moved out +5m for the entire circumference. The first field will face the starter at 1:53pm local time.

Best BetRace 7 – Dis Dah Wun (#8) $1.85 with Sportsbet

Formerly with Team Hawkes, Dis Dah Wun joined the Tony and Maddy Sears stable in October and was a dominant winner in her Queensland debut at Toowoomba on Cox Plate Day. The runs opened for jockey Ben Moffat on that occasion, allowing him to boot through and score by 1.5L on the Dissident mare. She now rises to 1200m, gets James Orman on board and has drawn the rails, which should see her boot up and lead. Her first two career runs saw her finish in the numbers behind the likes of Threeood and Frosty Rocks, which is ripping form for this.

Next BestRace 5 – Koonunga Hill (#2) $3.20 with Sportsbet

Kacy Fogden saddles up four-start maiden Koonunga Hill in a winnable 1350m maiden handicap. The Exceed And Excel gelding has finished in the numbers in all four career runs and looks well placed to break his duck. Robbie Fradd has ridden him both times this time in and retains the ride here, so he knows the horse well enough to bring home the bacon. He’ll slot in from barrier seven and should be too classy in this.

Next Best AgainRace 6 – Magic Fox (#3) $3.50 with Sportsbet

When we went over the form originally for this race, there was some hope that we’d get a price about Magic Fox. However, he has come up around $3.50 and been well supported since markets opened, so we’ll make him a win bet special also. His first-up run was great, finishing behind Niedorp and Gin ‘N’ Bitters at Doomben. Now second up, he gets to a track where he has consistently run well, and the rise in trip will suit him down to the ground. He drops half a kilo and keeps Brad Stewart on his back, which is a huge plus. From barrier three, we expect him to settle a touch closer and box seat behind the leaders. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him gap them here.
