Race 1 – Kia Ora Stud Handicap (2200m)

Interlocuter showed its class when winning at Wyong last start and it has been well-favoured to win again. The European import scored by 7.2 lengths over an inferior field and it looks to have plenty left in the tank. It has drawn ideally in barrier four and the $3.20 on offer looks a solid price.

Great Glen is another talented import which scored a nail-biting victory at Hawkesbury last start. The Chris Waller-trained gelding was heavily-backed into $2.70 and it only narrowly got the bob in on the line in the Provincial Stayers Championship. This is harder here, but it looked to have good ability and the $6 will entice some punters.

Richard Of Yorke has the fitness edge over many of these and it’s winning form. The Waller-trained stayer has won two of its last three which included a two-length win at Randwick last start. It does have to contend with barrier 20 so some luck will be required.

Race 1 tip: Interlocuter to win ($3.20) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Star Turn @ Vinery Handicap (1100m)

Upscale has drawn a wide gate which will be a factor over this distance, but it has ability and shouldn’t be overlooked because of that. The Kris Lees-trained mare has won four of its eight career starts, with three coming over this distance and it handles all track conditions. Current equal favourite at $6.

Firsthand has also won half of its career starts – winning three of six. The Hawkes-trained gelding is second up here after running fourth at Caulfield behind Miss Vista and it usually improves with racing under its belt. The four-year-old rarely produces a poor effort and in this wide open betting race, getting $6 is a solid price.

Sangiovese was disappointing at the end of its last campaign, which featured a last-placed finish at Warwick Farm. The Bjorn Baker-trained mare showed better form prior when running second behind Raiment and that form has since been franked. It’s a confidence runner and it just needs some early luck to figure in the finish at $8.

Race 2 tip: Firsthand to place (+125) at Bet365.com

Race 3 – Segenhoe Stud Woodlands Stakes (1100m)

Debonairly looked the winner at Randwick last start, but was just overhauled late in the race. The Waterhouse/Bott-trained sprinter scored a 4.3-length win on debut and its win at Newcastle two back came by 3.7 lengths. There’s no doubting its ability to run quick sectionals and the inside draw will allow it to find the pace easily. This track suits and bookmakers are giving punters $4.20.

Almanzora is the current $2.60 favourite despite running below expectations at Randwick last start. The Darren Beadman-trained filly finished fifth in the Percy Sykes Stakes after being well-favoured in the betting, but by all accounts it has improved since then. $2.60 is a tough price to take and it is subsequently drifting in the market.

Stablemate Epidemic had no luck on debut in the Pierro Stakes and it’s an interesting runner here. The two-year-old by Lonhro was blocked throughout the run and Brenton Avdulla never got clear on the second favourite. Tim Clark takes over the reins here and he has been riding in good form. $6 is a value price for an unknown talent.

Race 3 tip: Debonairly to win ($4.20) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 4 – Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m)

Eckstein was a classy performer last campaign, which ended in a Magic Millions Guineas placing. The Kurt Goldman-trained filly won four consecutive races leading up to that and any easing of the surface plays right into its hands. It has yet to win fresh up in three starts, but $7 is available and there is some each way value there.

Snitty Kitty has been given a tough draw of 19, but trainer Henry Dwyer remains confident and it’s in good form. The three-year-old has won two of its last three starts which included a classy 2.25-length win at Caulfield last time out. It stays at a light weight of 53kg and it has speed to burn from the barriers which helps from this draw.

With all the favoured runners drawing wide, that could open up a saloon passage for Smart Amelia which has drawn barrier seven. The James Cummings-trained filly tried hard behind Raiment last start and the form out of the James Carr should stack up nicely. It’s only career win came at maiden level which is the concern, but it’s drawn to get the soft trip.

Race 4 tip: Smart Amelia to place ($2.50) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 5 – Inglis Guineas (1400m)

Punters are still feeling the hurt of backing Calanda last start, but a chance of redemption is on the cards. The Snowden-trained runner had no luck last time out at Hawkesbury in the Guineas, but getting stuck on the rail from barrier 14 is unlikely to happen here. The son of Snitzel will likely drift back with some cover and make its run down the outside. It is the current $4 favourite and should remain steady at that price.

Prized Icon is on the same line of betting and it brings the class factor. The Cummings-trained colt has taken on some of the best thoroughbreds in Australia and its run for second in the Tulloch signalled a return to form. It didn’t fire on the heavy track in the Derby, but this is significantly easier and it just needs to cope with the shorter distance.

Mr Sneaky comes over from Melbourne with good form. The well-bred son of High Chaparral has won its last two which included a stunning win at Caulfield last start. Whether that form will stack up in Sydney is a big question mark, but there’s no denying its talent and it should enjoy a good trip in transit.

Race 5 tip: Calanda to win (+300) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 6 – Yarraman Park Luskin Star Stakes (1300m)

Sir Bacchus has the class to win a race like this and it has won twice when second up. The Waller-trained four-year-old has won six of its 15 career starts and it was tripped up by the heavy track last start at Randwick. Conditions should suit better here and it will get every chance from an inside draw. Each way hope at $6 and $2.25.

Snoopy has good flat speed and it usually fires first up. The Hawkes-trained four-year-old has won three of four fresh up starts and its only poor run last campaign was when it was held up in the Magic Millions Cup. Wins over Rough Justice and Unequivocal hold it in good stead for this and punters have expressed good interest at $4.20 with bookmakers.

Clearly Innocent has been kept safe in the market at $6 despite a tough run last start. The Lees-trained gelding sat wide throughout in the Hawkesbury Rush, but punters should expect Hugh Bowman to give the five-year-old a much better run from barrier six. It owns an incredible track record of five starts for five wins at Scone and its most recent win at Scone came over subsequent group one winner Music Magnate. Big chance here again.

Race 6 tip: Clearly Innocent to win ($6) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 7 – Emirates Park Dark Jewel Classic (1400m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1133323_07]

Artistry has come up as the $4.80 favourite after finishing an unlucky seventh in the Hawkesbury Crown last start. The Snowden-trained mare was a classy winner three back at Rosehill before finishing third behind subsequent group one winner Secret Agenda at Randwick. It has good form this campaign and despite not being suited by the soft track conditions, its class should take it a long way.

Shillelagh was a brilliant winner of the Hawkesbury Crown last start and it deserved a winning turn. The Waller-trained former Kiwi produced a big finish down the outside to beat Daysee Doom and it’s paying a great price to repeat the effort. The five-year-old by Savabeel opened at $10 and is currently at $9.50, which is a fair each way price.

Prompt Response has won only two of its 12 starts, but it arguably should have won the Hawkesbury Guineas last start. The three-year-old filly was forced to sit wide on the pace throughout and it still loomed as the winner close to the line. It will get every chance down in the weights at 53kg and it should get a good passage from barrier four.

Race 7 tip: Shillelagh to place (+210) at Bet365.com

Race 8 – Arrowfield Ortensia Stakes (1100m)

Dothraki may have lost the ability to win, but it keeps producing solid efforts. The Snowden-trained gelding was only caught late behind Artistry last start and it finished close up behind the likes of Target In Sight and Le Romain prior to that. It has the ability to win a race like this and punters are getting a fair price at $7.

Nieta is the boom horse in this field after winning at Randwick last start. The John Thompson-trained four-year-old continued its unbeaten fresh up run, but it has good form second up and it has won twice at this distance. Bookmakers are only offering a short price of $2.20, but it loves the sting out of the ground and conditions should suit perfectly.

Deploy hasn’t done anything wrong in its 11-race career, winning five and placing in another five. The four-year-old hasn’t taken on this level of opposition which is the concern, but it goes well fresh up and it can run on any surface. $8 on offer is a good each way quote.

Race 8 tip: Nieta to win (+120) at Ladbrokes.com.au
