Provincial jockey Aaron Bullock has reacted philosophically to being dumped from Magic Millions 2YO Classic favourite Jonker for Hugh Bowman.

Connections of the promising colt have opted to book the recently crowned World’s Best Jockey for the $2 million race at the Gold Coast on January 13.

Bullock had been in the saddle for both of Jonker’s lead-up wins at Newcastle and Wyong but Bowman, who is currently holidaying in Europe after a successful riding stint in Japan, will take over control of the $3.50 favourite.

“He’s obviously a world class jockey. They wouldn’t be the only owners to make that decision,” Bullock told Sky Sports Radio,

“It’s the nature of the game. It would have been a great opportunity but it’s not meant to be.

“I totally respect the decision. They bought this horse 12 months ago with the idea of coming to the Magic Millions.

“I’m just privileged to help them get the horse to the final race.”

Bowman will be back riding in Sydney Warwick Farm on Saturday week, seven days before the lucrative Magic Millions carnival.

Bullock was back riding trackwork at Newcastle on Friday morning as he serves a suspension that expires in time for bookings at Taree on Thursday.

“I didn’t lose too much sleep over it, and I do hope he wins. He’s a lovely little horse,” he said.
