He’s Our Rokkii after another Caulfield G1

Toorak Handicap winner He’s Our Rokkii will be out to take the step to weight-for-age while his jockey will be striving for a first Group One success in a star-studded C F Orr Stakes at Caulfield.

He’s Our Rokkii resumes in Saturday’s 1400m-race after a spring campaign which netted three wins – all at Caulfield – from four starts including the Group One Toorak.

Dwayne Dunn has been his regular rider but is on Caulfield Guineas winner Divine Prophet on Saturday, with Regan Bayliss to ride He’s Our Rokkii.

Bayliss recently finished his apprenticeship and winning a Group One race is an obvious ambition.

“I’ve been trying to notch one since I first started race riding but I’ve just got to realise these things take time and as soon as an opportunity arises I’m ready to grab it with both hands,” Bayliss said.

“And it’s a good opportunity on Saturday.”

Bayliss said He’s Our Rokkii had shown he was up to Group One level in the spring but had to take another step.

“That was in handicap grade and he’s got to go to weight-for-age in what looks a very competitive C F Orr,” he said.

“You could nearly make a case for every horse in the race but he’s got a lot of ability and is still on the way up and I’m sure he’ll make his presence felt.

“But I think he’ll take plenty of improvement from the run.”

Co-trainer David Hayes said the Doncaster Mile in Sydney in April was among the targets for He’s Our Rokkii, while the Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) was also an option.

“He’s had two runs in Sydney for two very impressive wins,” Hayes said.

The Orr features nine Group One winners including Malaguerra and Black Heart Bart who Hayes rates the horses to beat.

“He’s Our Rokkii’s trials have been easy but very impressive,” Hayes said.

“Physically he’s a late maturing horse who is starting to become an adult.

“He’s in a very hot race but he’s a pretty hot horse.”

He said apart from his unplaced Group One Cantala Stakes run he had an almost faultless spring.

“He’s a proven Group One horse who should run really well,” Hayes said.

“Obviously Malaguerra was ultra impressive the other day and Black Heart Bart runs well every time.

“But our horse has a terrific Caulfield record and I think he’s got a genuine winning chance. And it will set him up for a big autumn hopefully.”
