Heath Conners has winner with final runner

Heath Conners has bowed out of training racehorses in style, preparing a winner at Bendigo with his final runner.

And that comes days after the trainer also had a winner with his final city runner at Flemington.

Conners, a son of four-time Golden Slipper-winning trainer Clarry Conners, has made the decision to call time on his training career and on Tuesday four-year-old mare Neurotic delivered him a fitting farewell.

Neurotic raced to victory by a long neck in a 1100m benchmark 64 race.

Three days earlier, Conners prepared Villa Sarchi to win at Flemington which was an emotional win for the trainer with his final metropolitan runner.

“This is pretty good, but Saturday is still probably the best,” Conners told broadcaster Racing.com after Neurotic’s Bendigo victory.

“The win at Flemington was everything.”

Conners says he is comfortable with his decision but hopes to be able to stay in the industry.
