Group One assignment awaits Skylight Glow
James Cummings has already trained a two-year-old Group One winner this season and is eyeing another with Skylight Glow.
Prized Icon gave Cummings his first Group One trophy in his own right since the death of his grandfather Bart last year when he took out the Champagne Stakes.
Skylight Glow staked her claims for the last juvenile Group One race this year, the JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm in two weeks, with a determined win in Saturday’s 2YO Plate (1400m) at Randwick.
“There is a lot to like about her,” Cummings said.
“She is nominated for the Atkins and we will make a decision in the next ten days.
“She is a strong, athletic filly who has more to come in the spring but we will definitely look at the Brisbane race.”
Glyn Schofield took Skylight Glow ($4.20) to the front but was happy to hand up the lead to Cogliere ($16) coming to the home turn.
Skylight Glow had plenty in the tank and powered down the straight to hit the front again and hold off Barbass ($16) by a half length with Acatour ($5) another neck third.
Favourite Flow ($3.70) finished fourth with Cogliere fifth.
“It is a reflection of her strength that she has beaten Barbass who won a $100,000 race at Scone,” Cummings said.
“And the third is a beautiful horse so there is a lot to like about her win.”
