Group 1 Queensland Oaks form guide with odds and free tips

Doomben tips

THE Queensland Oaks continues the Brisbane winter carnival racing and we have a form guide with updated odds and free tips.

The Oaks has been moved to Doomben after the Eagle Farm debacle last week and it should be noted the race is now 2200m instead of 2400m.

There is quality racing throughout the day this Saturday including the P.J. O’Shea Stakes which attracted only six entries, but is a key lead-up to the Queensland Derby.

The Group 2 Moreton Cup features a field with form from all over Australasia and it will be one of the must-see races at Doomben.

Punters can get enhanced odds for every runner in the Oaks with Ladbrokes.com.au.

Race 1 – Bracken Ridge Tavern The Phoenix (1350m)

Pardoe has rattled off three consecutive wins and it proved it can handle all track conditions. The Tony Sears-trained colt flashed home late at Doomben last start to score and the form out of that race should stack up nicely. Hugh Bowman takes over the riding which is a positive and punters are getting good value at $3.70 after opening shorter at $3.60.

Snitzepeg is the current $3.40 favourite after its fifth in the Adelaide Sires’ Produce. The Darren Weir-trained two-year-old was an impressive maiden winner prior to that, when winning by five lengths at Ballarat. This is a big step up from that maiden win, but Weir rarely travels without intent of winning and it’s tough to overlook the riding form of John Allen at the moment.

Race 1 tip: Snitzepeg to win ($3.40) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 2 – Bill Carter Stakes (1200m)

Pretty Fast produced a solid debut effort at Wyong and it has been heavily backed for this. The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly finished third behind Intrinsic and it has the breeding to suggest it will take improvement from that. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt and Miss Sharapova is currently the $4.80 favourite with Bowman in the saddle and it should lob into a nice position from barrier seven.

It’s hard to overlook the most recent win from Black Mink. The Liam Birchley-trained filly scored by 4.3 lengths over Sista Act which is no slouch and its only career defeat to date came behind Houtzen. The nicely-bred Lonhro filly will get a good run in transit from barrier four and jockey Jeff Lloyd is in career best form. It’s currently at $5.50, but punters might get better value closer to race time.

Race 2 tip: Pretty Fast to win ($4.80) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 3 – City Property Services Spear Chief Handicap (1630m)

Payroll doesn’t have the best winning strike rate of two from 16 starts, but it’s rarely far away from the action and could be worth some value. The Richard Laming-trained mare finished fifth behind Maternal last start at Doomben and its third in the Magic Millions Trophy was classy. Jockey Damien Oliver isn’t riding in great form, but $6 is a fair price from bookmakers.

High Midnight looks a good chance after its last start placing behind Jungle Edge. The James Cummings-trained five-year-old is second up here and its second-up stats are worth noting. It has won three from its four second up starts and it handles all tracks. It likes to roll forward, but it might have to do some work from barrier 11. After opening at $2.80 it has drifted out slightly to $2.90.

Race 3 tip: High Midnight to win ($2.90) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 4 – Pages Event Equipment P.J. O’Shea Stakes (2200m)

High Church wasn’t disgraced when running second behind Time To Test in the Port Adelaide Cup last start. The Weir-trained stayer was running on nicely and despite dropping back in distance, it has placed over the 2200m prior. It scored an emphatic win at Warrnambool in May on a heavy track, but its best form comes on the dry and conditions should suit nicely on Saturday. It opened at $3.40 and has drifted to $3.70.

Single Gaze is the current $3 favourite and it wasn’t far behind them in the Doomben Cup last start. The Nick Olive-trained four-year-old was a quality winner on this track three back when beating Col ‘n’ Lil and that form has been franked. It has yet to run over this distance, but it suits its racing pattern and it should go close in the small field.

Race 4 tip: High Church to win ($3.70) at Bet365.com

Race 5 – Amgrow Lighting Handicap (1050m)

Felines is a nine-win mare which was running on well enough at Scone last start to be considered here. The Kris Lees-trained five-year-old has won all nine races at this distance and it hit the line powerfully at Hawkesbury when winning two back. It’s another plum ride for Hugh Bowman and it should run well at $5.

Snitty Kitty has plenty of gate speed and it looks well-placed in this. The Henry Dwyer-trained filly tried hard behind Miss Debutante in the Denises Joy last start and its win prior at Caulfield was full of class. It gets into this with only 54kg on its back and it won’t have to do much work from barrier five. $5.50 is a good value price from bookmakers.

Race 5 tip: Snitty Kitty to win ($5.50) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 6 – Ascot Green Moreton Cup (1200m)

Deploy is a quality gelding which has more wins in store this season. The Gerald Ryan-trained gelding finished second behind Quatronic in the Ortensia Stakes at Scone, which followed four consecutive wins. The four-year-old has form on all tracks and gets in here with a light weight of 53kg. Drawing barrier 12 won’t make it easy, but there’s no denying its class and the $5 is a fair price.

The run of Splurge was too bad to be true last start, but expect a betting showing this time around. The Kiwi sprinter settled back and never made an impression on the heavy track, but the conditions change for this and it should be allowed another chance. The New Zealand runners often take a run to find their feet and with bookmakers offering $7.50 for the win, it could be worth an each way bet.

Race 6 tip: Deploy to win ($5) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 7 – Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks (2200m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1134303_07]

Egg Tart is the drifting favourite, but we’re expecting late money for the talented filly. The Waller-trained filly has won its last five races which included the Schweppes Oaks at Morphettville over race-rival Kenedna. The daughter of Sebring is getting better with more racing under its belt and it has the ability to sit off the speed and launch late. It should be tough to beat at even weights and the $4 with Ladbrokes’ enhanced odds is worth taking.

Kenedna won The Roses last start after escaping a protest and it has the ability to turn the tables on Egg Tart. It ran second behind the favourite in the Schweppes Oaks, but the run was full of merit and being a past winner on this track will do it plenty of good. It doesn’t have much tactical speed, but it will wind up into the race and come with a big late finish. Chance at $4.40.

Race 7 tip: Egg Tart to win ($4) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 8 – IPG Marketing Solutions Coughlan Stakes (1200m)

Nancy has drawn very wide in barrier 16, but it will likely drop back and flash home late again. The Snowden-trained mare ran second in the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast last start and despite having never won at this distance, it’s only a matter of time. If the speed is on up front, expect a withering burst down the outside.

Bonny O’Reilly has progressed through the grades nicely and after four straight wins, it’s the form runner to follow. The Bjorn Baker-trained mare produced a gutsy effort to win last time out and it should get every chance to win again from barrier two. The winner of six from eight starts jumps from barrier two which should allow jockey Jason Collett to be positive and be tough to beat at odds of $3.60.

Race 8 tip: Bonny O’Reilly to win ($3.60) at CrownBet.com.au
