Ground search for trainer called off

The ground search for missing racehorse trainer Bindi Cheers in the Beresfield area of Newcastle has been called off with police to reassess the situation.

NSW Police were concentrating their search on an area where there was a credible sighting on Tuesday afternoon.

“There’s been some information that Bindi might have been sighted yesterday afternoon near this area that we’re searching,” Inspector Peter Vromans told reporters.

“One of the things we’re considering is that she’s gone back into an area that we’ve previously searched.

“We really have to keep our minds open at this stage. It is possible that she doesn’t want to be found. We’re re-attacking our search area again to find her.”

The Taree-based Cheers left Hawkesbury races around 2pm on Sunday and her horse float was found at a service station at Beresfield about two hours later.

She has not been seen since.
