Gosford racing preview & betting tips

Gosford’s Tuesday card will see eight races run and won from 1:25pm AEDT. The track is currently rated a Soft 5, and the rail is in the +3m position throughout. Let’s take a look at some of the best bets on offer at Australia’s top online bookmakers.

Best BetRace 3 – Attribution (#9) $2.70 with Sportsbet

The Godolphin stable has to be respected wherever it goes, and seeing James Cummings’ name in the race book at Gosford on a Tuesday is certainly enough to perk us up. He saddles up Attribution in maiden grade, and the filly looks ready to win after placing in all three of her career starts. On debut, she finished four lengths off the talented Ballistic Lover at Wyong, which looks tidy form for this. Brenton Avdulla is a great booking that shows plenty of intent from the stable, and he should get the Exceed And Excel filly into a handy position from barrier two. We see no reason why she can’t break out of maiden grade here.

Next BestRace 2 – Red Stiletto (#2) $4.80 with Sportsbet

Red Stiletto comes into this race off the back of a run in the $1,000,000 Bondi Stakes behind Peltzer. While the filly’s race record doesn’t read all that well, with her only win coming 11 months ago at Doomben and three last-placings since, the form around her is terrific and she faces a serious drop in grade. Four weeks ago, she finished less than seven lengths off Wild Ruler, who ran third in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington, and wasn’t that far away from Doubtland, who is Group class. Barrier two should allow her to settle closer than usual under Regan Bayliss, and if she can get a soft run in transit and perform at the black-type level she has been running at in this campaign, she is a serious chance of rolling the odds-on favourite in this.

Best ValueRace 5 – Em Cee Gee (#3) $17 with Sportsbet

Marc Conners and Kathy O’Hara combine in the fifth with Em Cee Gee, a four-year-old mare having just her sixth career start. She’s been sent around at big odds in all of her races to date, but we were surprised to see her installed as a $17 chance here after what we thought was a brilliant third last start. That effort came on a Heavy 8 at this track behind Pia Sofia and Fantastic Baby, so the sting out of the ground should suit. There looks to be a bit of speed in this race, so O’Hara should be able to park just behind the speed from barrier four and save her for one last sprint at the end. She is an each-way chance all day.
