Mr Tickets looks poised for another great performance after three-straight second placed finishes. In all those finishes the horse lost by a combined 1.3 lengths, highlighting just how close the horse has gone. It looms as the best bet of the opening event.

Race 1 tip: Mr Tickets to win ($3.40 at Neds)

Race 2 – Class 1 Handicap (1100m)

Connoisseur gets a good gate to jump from on Thursday and will be right in the mix here. The horse pulled up lame last-start and subsequently went to the trials, but before that it had recorded three-straight second placed finishes.

Race 2 tip: Connoisseur to win at Crownbet

Race 3 – Maiden (1600m)

Alik is second-up on Thursday, a spot in the preparation where it has placed in the past. The horse resumed in good fashion at Hawkesbury as a $12 outsider, finishing third, only a length off the winner. If Alik gets away smartly from the wider gate it is a definite winning hope.

Race 3 tip: Alik to win at Sportsbet

Race 4 – Maiden (1200m)

Godolphin galloper Sekiyama is a horse that needs a change of luck. After recording back-to-back second placed finishes as a short-priced elect. The market may choose to take it on after missing out as an even-money favourite twice but we’re favouring it to breakthrough here.

Race 4 tip: Comrade Ned to win at Sportsbet

Race 5 – Gosford Guineas (1200m)

Bella Martini is seeking a hat-trick here and looks well placed to deliver. Those two wins came in smart races at both Moonee Valley and Caulfield and there’s no reason to think it cannot win here in a smaller field. The three-year-old filly looms as a star of the future and we believe it can take the race before the feature here.

Race 5 tip: Whiskey Business to win at CrownBet

Race 6 – Gosford Gold Cup (2100m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1179867_06]

Hogmanay won well at Randwick last-start and looms as a winning threat in the feature event of the day. In a wide-open affair the form coming in will be telling, as will be the rock-bottom weight and decent gate.

Race 6 tip: Hogmanay to win ($7.50 at Neds)

Race 7 – Class 4 Handicap (1200m)

Victorem is second-up after a successful resumption on December 16, but surprisingly the horse had to trial despite the win due to concerns at the start. The horse won that trial, and if it wins on Thursday it will be the horse’s fourth-straight triumph. We are finding a hard time mounting a case as to why it won’t.

Race 7 tip: Victorem to win ($2.50 at Crownbet)
