Gold Topaz betting guide with form and free tips, Friday June 9

Gold Topaz betting

THE $100,000 Gold Topaz at Swan Hill has attracted a good field this Friday which includes the likes of Stellar Collision, Thermal Current and Boomwaa.

The Friday feature is the major sprinting race on the nine-race card which also includes the VOBIS Gold Elvstroem Classic where a field of eight juveniles will compete.

We have form and free tips for every race at Swan Hill on Friday which kicks off with the Hygain Maiden Plate at 12.30pm.

Race 1 – Hygain Maiden Plate (1200m)

A Good Knight improved significantly when finishing third last start and it could get some of the prize again. The Gerald Egan-trained gelding ran well at Echuca after showing nothing at its first two starts and the rain-affected track might have had something to do with it. Lachlan King is riding well at the moment and it could be worth an each way bet.

Seento will have to cope with a wide barrier draw, but the Darren Weir-trained gelding will likely have its supporters. The three-year-old comes into this having finished second at Mildura and the money has been on in all four race day starts. It’s bred to stay so the distance might not suit, but this isn’t the strongest maiden field around and it could capitalise.

Race 2 – Java Spice Thai Maiden (1200m)

Quick Verse is on debut for Lindsay Park and there’s some high profile names in the ownership. The likes of Wylie Dalziel and Peter Moody are involved with this daughter of Poet’s Voice which will no doubt improve with time. Beau Mertens takes the ride at a nice weight of 55.5kg and barrier two should allow the filly to land right on the speed and be tough to beat.

Lady Of Leisure is a local chance which has placed in three of its four starts. The four-year-old mare finished only two lengths from the winner at Mildura last start and breaking maiden grades doesn’t see too far away for it. Bookmakers will likely have it at nice odds.

Race 3 – Tab R64 Handicap (2100m)

Two Hats is a last start winner for Aaron Purcell which looks to have plenty of ability. The six-year-old has now won three from its nine starts and it returned from a three-year lay off with a placing and a win from three starts. That’s an incredible feat and it pays credit to its natural ability. It does have to carry the big weight of 60.5kg for this, but respect its chances.

Bonville has won only one race, but it wasn’t far behind them last start. The Danny O’Brien-trained colt ran third at Geelong in what should be a good form race and the son of O’Reilly has plenty of improvement left in it. The rise up to this distance looks ideal and punters should come for it.

Race 4 – Holts Hyundai R64 Handicap (2100m)

Look At Me Now looked to have talent early on in its career, but that form has tapered off a touch. The Weir-trained mare is a winner of three from 24 starts, but it has finished up close at its last three starts and another win could be on the cards here. It goes best at this distance and it has drawn a barrier where it should get a soft trip.

Supreme Harmony won by a half-length at Bendigo two back and the wet track might have tripped it up last start. The Archie Alexander-trained gelding should be better suited here and the only query is the rise up in distance, but it’s breeding suggests that it will handle the rise.

Race 5 – No Fuss Event Hire Elvstroem Classic (1300m)

Darren Weir lines up last start winner Prevailing Winds, which should run well at this level. The son of Exceed And Excel didn’t show much on debut behind Tulip, but that form is strong and it relished the rise in distance when winning at Wodonga last time out. We’re expecting punters to back this runner into favouritism.

Watchdog ran sixth behind Exceeds on debut at Randwick before running second at Pakenham last start. The Darren Beadman-trained gelding couldn’t keep up with Royal Symphony last start, but it would have appreciated the hit out and improvement is now expected. It should have most of the field covered on talent.

Race 6 – The Bottle O Handicap (1600m)

Curragh King has needed both starts back this campaign and it should be ready to strike now. The locally-trained gelding has had 14 starts at Swan Hill for one win and two placings, but punters typically get a good price for the seven-year-old and that shouldn’t be any different here. Consider on an each way basis.

Miss Joolia is an eight-win mare which is a past winner on this track and is nearing another top showing. The seven-year-old is a wet track specialist so conditions would need to be wet, but its recent form on the dry suggests it could handle it either way and it gets a valuable 2kg off its back.

Race 7 – Pooles Accountants Golden Topaz (1200m)

Stellar Collision has the class edge over most of these and it scored a win at its only start at Swan Hill. The Weir-trained gelding has been running against some quality thoroughbreds in recent times and this field doesn’t make the cut compared to them. It has won four times at this distance and it should get every chance after drawing barrier five.

Boomwaa isn’t quite the horse we all thought it would be, but it’s still running competitive races and it will enjoy carrying the 54kg. The Henry Dwyer-trained gelding is a winner of two from 33 starts, but it ran second at Caulfield two starts back and that form is good for this. It drops in weight and it could go close.

Race 8 – Cadd Constructions 3YO Handicap (1200m)

Moonlites Choice looked to have ability last campaign and the drop in class is a big bonus. The Weir-trained filly finished sixth in the Twilight Glow Stakes before running fourth behind Merriest three back, but it hasn’t gone close since. The class is there and on its day it would handle this field with ease.

Cape Sounion scored an easy five-length win last start and the win should have given it plenty of confidence. The Symon Wilde-trained gelding has won and placed at this distance and scoring such an easy win should be given its due credit. It hasn’t landed in an easy race, but it should be considered on an each way basis.

Race 8 tip: Moonlites Choice to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 9 – Jarrod Arentz Electrical R78 (1200m)

Floral Fever has a good winning record of five from 17 and it looks ready to win again after finishing third at Morphettville last start. The Wilde-trained gelding flashed home over this distance last start and despite having never won over 1200m, it will enjoy this level of racing and it should be in the thick of the finish.

Jest For The Road resumes here after showing good form in town last campaign. The Corstens-trained gelding ran third at Moone Valley last time out and despite that coming over more ground, it has won over this distance and punters should expect a forward showing.
