Gold Coast midweek racing form and free tips, Wednesday June 21

Midweek tips

THE Queensland winter carnival has been a happy hunting ground for punters and that’s likely to continue at Gold Coast this Wednesday.

Betting on midweek races is a great time to find value and we have form, markets and free tips for all eight races on the card this Wednesday, June 21.

Queensland’s best jockeys are all in action, including current premiership leader Jeff Lloyd who has a stack of top quality rides and punters will likely continue the champion for the remainder of the carnival.

Action at Gold Coast starts with the Surfside Buses Maiden at 12pm and punters can get the best early odds with Sportsbet.com.au.

Race 1 – Surfside Buses Maiden Plate (1200m)

John Dann lines up On A High which went close at its last start. The nicely-bred filly by High Chaparral finished second at Sunshine Coast and its efforts prior included a placing on debut at Ipswich. It should strengthen up nicely with the run under its belt this campaign and it sticks with the sprinting distances where both placings have come at so far. It will get a nice run from barrier three and the light weight helps.

Faberge Lass is second up for the Heinrich/Rodgers team after running third on debut. The daughter of Lonhro finished third in the same race as On A High and that should be the best form guide for this race. The three-year-old is bred to get better with racing and the betting picture should tell the full story. Follow the odds with interest.

Race 2 – Village Roadshow Theme Parks Maiden (1200m)

Cool Mover has raced against some quality opposition without success and it should appreciate dropping to maiden grades for the first time. The two-year-old by Hinchinbrook finished fifth behind Teaspoon on debut before running third at Eagle Farm. It was then unlucky in the Calaway Gal at Doomben which would see it winning this with ease, but its last two starts have been average at best. It needs luck from the draw, but consider on class alone.

Golden Sheaf ran with distinction on debut at Sunshine Coast and punters should expect natural improvement despite rising in weight. The David Vandyke-trained filly by Congrats finished just under a length from Bogey Man and Michael Cahill takes over the riding from Jeff Lloyd. There was plenty of support on debut at $2.10 and it should be paying a similar price here.

Race 2 tip: Golden Sheaf to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 3 – Aquis Farm Maiden Plate (1200m)

Dazzling Red has been knocking on the door of a win after back-to-back placings. The Chris Munce-trained colt finished eighth on debut, but it quickly improved for back-to-back placings on this track. It was no match for the winner last start when finishing 4.3 lengths away from Dynastic, but Jeff Lloyd hops in the saddle for this run and that could make all the difference. The inside draw looks ideal.

Porcini has attracted support at both career starts and it could provide some each way value. The Steven O’Dea-trained colt has only battled in both runs, but it hasn’t been far away and another run at the 1200m should suit nicely. Jim Byrne takes over the riding duties and it has drawn to get a nice cart into the race.

Race 3 tip: Dazzling Red to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 4 – Sky Racing C1 Plate (1400m)

Care To Think looks one of the better bets of the day in this. The Matthew Dunn-trained gelding finished second in the Grafton Guineas Prelude last time out and it didn’t have the best of runs throughout. Its form prior included a fourth in the Highway Handicap at Randwick and a placing at Ipswich. It has the breeding to continue running well and it shouldn’t find this opposition too frightening.

Fabvier is finding it hard to win another race, but it’s in the right hands and it has gone close its last two. The Toby Edmonds-trained filly has finished second in consecutive starts leading into this, including a nose defeat on this track in May. It’s owned by China Horse Club so the expectation is there and it looks a strong chance to down Care To Think.

Race 4 tip: Care To Think to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 5 – Trackside Tapas Handicap (1100m)

Powerful Saga is a five-time winner from 17 starts which was a winner on this track two starts back. The Helen Page-trained gelding is a three-time winner on its home track and it should get conditions to suit this Wednesday. Its run for fourth behind Sir Donald last start is a good indication of form and it should run well again.

Magnus Cor is another consistent type which has shown good form this campaign. The four-year-old mare has won and placed at this distance and it was a quality winner at Ipswich just two starts back. It rises up in grade for this which makes it harder, but the inside draw is ideal and the 55kg helps.

Race 5 tip: Powerful Saga to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 6 – Sky Racing Handicap (1800m)

Cosgrove looks to have ability at this level and it went close last start. The Edmonds-trained colt finished fourth in this grade as the $3.60 favourite and punters should expect similar odds for this. It won its maiden by four lengths last year and it has shown the ability to handle all conditions. Consider for each way bets.

Sornja finally rewarded punters with a last start win and the confidence is high now. The O’Dea-trained three-year-old scored a two-length win on this track earlier this month having finished second in three of its four starts prior. It should settle on the pace from the inside draw and give them something to catch.

Race 6 tip: Sornja to win at Bet365.com

Race 7 – Skyline Restaurant Handicap (1200m)

Academy Hill is a consistent type which has placed in 17 of its 32 starts. It has only two wins beside its name, but it has been firmly knocking on the door after running within a half-length of the winner at its last two starts. One of those came in a Highway Handicap, so the form is strong and it looks a top place chance again.

Archytas didn’t have much support at Sunshine Coast last start, but it ran well for second and it could improve. The Munce-trained gelding is having its first start on this track, which shouldn’t be a concern and it has form at this distance. It will want a good track to show its best.

Race 7 tip: Academy Hill to place at CrownBet.com.au

Race 8 – Sky Racing Handicap (1400m)

Constantine has won three of its four starts and it looks to have good natural ability. The Munce-trained three-year-old is bred to handle the longer distances so the rise to 1400m will suit and it only needs a touch of luck from the wide draw. Expect Larry Cassidy to find a spot midfield before producing around the home straight.

Lyricist has produced only one poor effort from six starts and that came in the Magic Millions Roses. Every other run has either been a win or placing and it looks a good bet in this. The Edmonds-trained mare has won two from three starts on this track and it will likely jump the barriers and be tough to run down.

Race 8 tip: Lyricist to win at Sportsbet.com.au
