Godolphin holding aces for Epsom, Metrop

Following his second-place finish behind champion mare Winx, Godolphin’s Hauraki is the early favourite for the Group One Epsom Handicap.

Hauraki ran well in Saturday’s Group One George Main Stakes, but was no match for Winx who swept past him with ease to win her 11th straight race.

He is $5 favourite to win the $1 million Epsom (1600m) at Randwick on October 1.

The Pat Webster-trained Happy Clapper shares the second line of betting with the Darren Weir-trained dual Group One winner Palentino at $7.

Weir has also entered Memsie Stakes winner Black Heart Beart , who is rated a $9 hope.

Group One winners Le Romain and Lucia Valentia, trained by Kris Lees, are at $13 and $17 respectively.

Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller holds a quarter of all nominations for the Epsom and the $750,000 Metropolitan Handicap (2400m) to be run on the same day.

Waller has nine Epsom entries headlined by McCreery and Mackinstosh and seven nominated for the Metropolitan.

Godolphin also have the early market leader for the Metropolitan with Hartnell the $3.50 top pick after his devastating wins in the Chelmsford and Hill Stakes.

Behind him is the Waller-trained pair Sacred Master, who won the Group Three Newcastle Cup on Friday, and the in-form Antonio Giuseppe at $6 and $8 respectively.

Victorian-trained Group One winners Tarzino and Our Ivanhowe are at $11, the same price as Godolphin’s Allergic.
