Global Glamour leads all the way in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield

GAI Waterhouse had won just about every major race in Australia, but the champion trainer hadn’t won a Thousand Guineas, until Global Glamour dazzled at Caulfield on Saturday.

The prized Sydney filly came into the race having won the Group 1 Flight Stakes and punters launched into the $5 being offered by CrownBet.

The win have both co-trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott their first Thousand Guineas success and it came with a progressive filly which has always shown top-line potential.

“She’s an absolute star, very special filly, we thought that early from a very young age,” Bott said. “She’s come back in such good order (from its two-year-old season), having such a long time off the scene, we threw her in the deep end and she really seasoned, and today we saw her take it to another level again.”

Bott is gaining valuable experience in his partnership with Waterhouse and he was delighted to be a part of her first Thousand Guineas win.

“Great way to do it. Absolutely delighted for everyone involved,” Bott said. “She’s an incredible person to share success with. I’m delighted to be a part of her first winner.”

Bott doesn’t have any immediate plans for Global Glamour which has done more than enough this campaign.

“We haven’t thought too far beyond today’s race. We’ll let the dust settle, enjoy today before making any further plans,” he said.

Winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy is riding in career-best form and he credited the advice from Tim Clark who rode the filly in the Flight Stakes. McEvoy was happy to find the lead and run the opposition off their feet.

“She’s done a great job. Gai and Adrian have had to back her up within a week,” McEvoy said. “She can be a little bit of a tricky ride. She got out on terms and got into a lovely rhythm.

“She’s very tough, well put together, well made, light on her feet. Good share of ability, we were able to get it pretty soft. I knew I was going to be hard to catch once we got to the three pole.”

I Am A Star ran a career-best race for second and looked a winning chance at the top of the straight. Perth filly Whispering Brook rebounded well after a disappointing effort in the Tranquil Star last start to finish third.

The disappointment was race-favourite Foxplay which had a good trip in transit, but was unable to let down for Hugh Bowman.
