Glasshouse Handicap 2020 betting tips, best odds & value bets

Soxagon
Soxagon looms as the horse to beat in Saturday’s Listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast.

The Glasshouse Handicap and the Winx Guineas are the headline races at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday afternoon. The Glasshouse is a Listed open-age sprint over 1400m where Soxagon heads the market ahead of Deep Image and Krone. The speed should be genuine with Soxagon, Deep Image and Special Missile all likely to go forward. The race, which is the eighth on the card, is set to jump at 4:48pm AEST.

Saturday racing tips for 2020 Glasshouse Handicap

Best Bet
Soxagon – $2.25 @

Soxagon has been simply dominant this campaign with three wins from four runs to date. His only loss came in a very narrow photo finish to Red Chase, which is also airborne at the moment. Soxagon is a winner at the Sunshine Coast and races well at 1400m with two wins and four placings from seven starts over the seven-furlong course. Drawn perfectly in barrier five to jump and lead under Michael Cahill, the four-year-old should take some serious catching with only 54kg on his back. He has not missed the places once in the last 12 months and has been racing in good company. Mark Currie’s gelding is a deserving favourite for the feature race.

Next Best
Deep Image – $6 @

We’ve been on Deep Image every race this prep, including some much tougher races, so it wouldn’t be right to jump off now. He was ridden upside down in the Stradbroke Handicap and only managed to beat two runners home when wide without cover worse than midfield. He had every right to drop out of the race completely but instead only finished five lengths behind Tyzone. He rises significantly in weight, but he is no stranger to the 59kg. Drawn in gate eight with Steph Thornton aboard, the Testa Rossa gelding will be able to cross and sit behind Soxagon. He has won twice at the Sunshine Coast, both at the 1400m, which is a big advantage for him. Expect Deep Image to be in it for a long way.

Best Value
River Racer – $11 @

River Racer won this race last year over Niccanova and looks to be peaking after a good second behind Love You Lucy in the Group 2 Dane Ripper two starts back, before running okay at Doomben last Saturday. In-form hoop Robbie Fradd takes over from Taylor Marshall on the mare this weekend and should give her every possible chance from gate four. It is clear that the big tracks like Eagle Farm and the Sunshine Coast are where she does her best racing, and we expect her to be right in the finish in this. She will no doubt land on the fence, a touch worse than midfield, and be flashing late under Fradd over the 1400m journey. The slight sting out of the ground will only do her good and we think she is the value in the race.
