Girl Guide backed to win Sir John Monash

Girl Guide has been well supported to land a first-up stakes win at Caulfield.

The Ciaron Maher-trained mare has been backed from $11 to $6 to win the Group Three Sir John Monash Stakes on Saturday.

Fast `N’ Rocking, trained by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig, heads the market at $4.60 with Wild Rain sharing the second line with Girl Guide.

Girl Guide will be having just her third start for Maher in Saturday’s 1100m sprint having been previously trained by the Lindsay Park team of Hayes and Dabernig.

At her first outing for Maher, Girl Guide finished a close second in the Listed Bel Esprit Stakes when her jockey Dean Yendall, protested unsuccessfully against Damien Oliver on the Lindsay Park-trained Sheidel.

Girl Guide’s only other start for Maher was when eighth in the Wangoom Handicap during the three-day Warrnambool May carnival.

The Robbie Laing-trained Lord Of The Sky has firmed from $7.50 to $7 to claim a second win in the Monash.

Lord Of The Sky won the Sir John Monash Stakes in 2014 and finished seventh to Miss Promiscuity last year.

He hasn’t raced since finishing last behind Griante in The Galaxy at Rosehill in March but has since won a Cranbourne barrier trial.
