Ghisoni out of the Stradbroke Handicap
Godolphin filly Ghisoni has been ruled out of the Stradbroke Handicap in favour of the Dane Ripper Stakes against her own sex on the same day.
The winner of four of her six starts including Saturday’s Glenlogan Park Stakes, Ghisoni had been one of the favourites for the Group One Stradbroke (1400m) on June 11.
But Godolphin Australia managing director Henry Plumptre said the decision not to run her was made in consultation with trainer John O’Shea with future Group One races in mind.
“We’ve always had an eye on not only this campaign, but the spring where there are some very nice races for her,” Plumptre said.
“She’s in great order. John and the team are very happy with her. We simply decided that this was the most suitable course to follow with a filly who has a great future.”
Plumptre said depending on how she came through the Dane Ripper, Ghisoni could run in the Group One Tatt’s Tiara for fillies and mares but the Myer Classic in the spring was a target.
Azkadellia is the favourite for the Stradbroke with Damien Oliver, who won the Queen of the Turf Stakes on the mare, confirmed as her rider.
