Gawler racing tips & quaddie picks – Wednesday, 2 September 2020
Racing returns to Gawler on Wednesday after a two-week break. The rail is true, while the going is a Good 4. There’s plenty of short-priced favourites throughout the card, so hopefully the punters come out on top in the build up to a big weekend. When we last raced at Gawler, the track played quite fairly with the rail out 6m, so let’s hope it remains the same with the fresh cut to the inside of the track.

Race 6 – Boomer Beach @ $1.90
A bit of a wait for the best bet on the card, as it comes in the penultimate race. Boomer Beach closed quite nicely upon resumption and was unlucky to miss out here a fortnight ago on heavy going when beaten by under half a length. He gets 1kg off from that effort with young Jacob Opperman on board with his 3kg claim and will prove hard to hold out against this lot. He doesn’t necessarily have an outstanding second-up record, but this should be easy enough for him to break that form. Hardest to beat would be Panzer Princess (#7).
Race 2 – Hard Border @ $2
No prizes for picking these two as the best bets on the card, but they both seem well placed. Hard Border, who gets blinkers on for the first time, was just out of the placings upon resumption; he did a lot of work to be up outside the speed and just couldn’t find enough when the leader kicked away. A lot of his rivals have tended to find trouble in their runs, so it may be hard to line up form between them, but we can see Hard Border leading this field up and proving hard to catch.
Race 3 – Arctic Border @ $10/$2.50 EW
An 18-start maiden is hardly a drawcard for the punters, but Arctic Flora has been consistent of late and comes in off consecutive runner-up efforts. The five-year-old mare was the widest runner on the home turn last start and actually beat home the favourite in this race, Lady Dunmore, to whom she gives away only 2kg this time round. Look for her to settle at the back of the field and come home over the top of them late.
