Gauci expects to take Ashlee Marie mount

Darren Gauci doesn’t expect a shoulder injury to stop him taking a Group One ride at Eagle Farm.

Gauci was stood down after one ride at Ballarat on Wednesday but says he should be right to take the mount on Ashlee Marie in the Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

He will see Racing Victoria’s doctor on Friday to get the all-clear.

Gauci tweaked his left shoulder at Geelong on Tuesday and said his first ride at Ballarat a day later was a difficult one which placed more strain to the shoulder.

“I was a little bit concerned and I thought it best to look after it and to get it properly assessed,” Gauci said.

“The on-course doctor thought the same and said it would be best to rest it for a couple of days and that I should be right for Saturday.

“I’ll go in and see Gary Zimmerman on Friday to get the all-clear, but I think it should be OK.”

Ashlee Marie, a last-start second to Chabaud in the South Australian Fillies Classic at Morphettville, is a $51 chance in the Oaks.

Gauci will also ride Adirondack in the Eagle Farm Cup.
