Function for fallen track riders

A major fund raiser will be held for injured Toowoomba trackwork riders Ben Saunders and Wade Clasohm who will be wheelchair bound for the rest of their lives.

The pair fell while riding trackwork at Toowoomba on April 8 and have since been recovering in a Brisbane hospital.

Doctors believe, despite surgery, neither will walk again.

The “Racing Reaches Out” fundraiser will be held at Toowoomba’s Clifford Park on May 13.

Toowoomba Turf Club chairman Kent Woodford said it was expected the fundraiser would draw a big crowd.

“These boys have an enormous battle ahead of them. It’s only fitting that the racing community band together to help raise some money to aid their recovery and help ease the burden of expenses on their families,” Woodford said.

The club has received many offers of assistance from both racing authorities (Racing Queensland and the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission) and local businesses.

It has also received donations of auction items, including a framed, signed shoe belonging champion sprinter Buffering, a weekend away in Melbourne including Flemington Racecourse hospitality and a tour of the Living Legends facility and a signed Gold Coast Titans jersey
