THE seventh and final meeting in Australia takes place in Launceston as the Tasmanian town plays host to a twilight meeting to round out the big day of racing.
The Tasmanian Stakes is the feature event on the card, but there’s eight other great races that are taking place in the Apple Isle.

Race 1 – Maiden Plate (1400m)

Go For It has placed back-to-back since returning and looks well suited to break through here. The son of Host looks to be a different horse to the one that couldn’t buy a placing in its debut preparation and we’re expecting it to shake the maiden tag here.

Mandela Effect should be winning this race. The horse has finished second three times from four races, finishing within half a length of the winner every time. It’s now or never for the son of Turffontein.

Quick Quill has firmed from its opening quote of $8 into $4.60 at Neds and its easy to see why. The first start winner raced well on debut in Hobart and natural progression should see it going on with the job here.

Race 4 – Class 3 Handicap (1200m)

Derasa is chasing a third-straight win on Wednesday and is well placed to get it. The horse has placed third-up in the past and the two recent wins suggest its in top flight. Will be hard to hold out, even jumping barrier 11.
Derasa is our best bet of the night at Launceston

Race 5 – Armidale Stud 3YO Trophy (1400m)

Mister Songman is the horse to beat here. Had it not been for a disappointing run as a $1.73 favourite via Ladbrokes, the horse would be coming into its fifth race as an unbeaten galloper. The three-year-old is the most talented runner in the field and will take some beating in this one.

Race 6 – Listed Tasmanian Stakes (1600m)

Hellova Street is looking to bounce back from its shock defeat last time out as a $1.30 elect at Neds. The horse that beat it that day got the perfect run and we don’t expect to see that perfect storm to unfold again. Hellova Street wins this soundly.

Race 7 – Benchmark 68 (1400m)

Zatacla is racing second-up where it has placed previously in the past. Upon resumption the horse finished third after being blocked for its run in the latter stages. We’re expecting the horse to strip fitter here and deliver a better account of itself.

Race 8 – Benchmark 72 (2100m)

Flash Missile is a last-start winner that looks to have a class advantage on the field here. The four-year-old returns to Launceston where it has won twice and placed a further two times over six attempts and we are anticipating a similarly strong showing in the penultimate event.

Race 9 – Benchmark 62 (1600m)

The hat-trick seeking Pennstock is the top selection here for us. The favourite has saluted in back-to-back events as an even-money elect and we’re not considering jumping off the bandwagon here. We think it’ll end the night in Tassie on a winning note.
