Full form & free tips, Thursday night at Warrnambool, November 30
THE sole Victorian racing card this Thursday is at Warrnambool and the team at Horse Betting decided to change things up a bit and provide a full day’s worth of tips for the popular venue.
There’s plenty of great races slated for Thursday, culminating in the Port Fairy Cup towards the end of the day.

Race 1 – Maiden Plate (2000m)
An extremely hard to pick maiden event kicks of the card at the ‘Bool.
Charlie’s World looks set for a strong performance after a second placing at Moe on November 10. The horse is still working out the racing caper, but if it settles nicely in the run it has shown enough to suggest it will be right in the finish.
The Groundsman will need to improve on its last two runs, but its debut run of third as an $81 hope suggests it is not completely hopeless. The son of Niello is one of the select few runners in the field that has placed in a race before so we expect that experience to be telling.
Race 1 tip: Charlie’s World to win at Neds
Race 2 – Maiden Plate (1400m)
The second maiden plate of the day has a bit more form around it and a number of runners here could go onto bigger and better things once they shake the winless tag.
Paint This City debuted in great style at Kyneton back on November 8, finishing third and just over a length off the winner at a huge price. The typical backmarker will be taken to the rear of the field early doors and unleashed late.
Eagle Ridge came out of the same race and was the horse that finished second. Based on the quality of that race we believe these two will be fighting out the finish in what a race that could produce a number of quality runners in the future.
Race 2 tip: Paint This City at Unibet
Race 3 – Port Fairy Maiden (1100m)
Speedy Illusion looks the best horse in a weak maiden field in the third. Placing in exactly half of its eight career starts, the gelding is consistently around the mark but just hasn’t had the luck required to break through. That should change on Thursday.
Lava Tongue looks to be the next-best in the field. Two weeks ago at Naracoorte the horse was not too far off the mark and this races presents the perfect opportunity to shake the maiden tag on the fifth attempt.
Race 3 tip: Speedy Illusion to win at Sportsbet
Race 4 – Benchmark 64 (1000m)
Del Piero looks well suited to win again in the fourth race on the card. Having won or placed in four-straight races, the five-year-old is resuming after a short let up. The horse races well fresh and looks primed to continue the consistently good form.
Zoot Suit Riot is second-up after a disappointing sixth upon resumption at Bendigo on the 14th. Thankfully, the horse is a terrific second-up runner, winning once and placing three times over six attempts. A sharp improvement is expected from us.
Race 4 tip: Del Piero to win at William Hill
Race 5 – Class One Handicap (1200m)
Saxophone is resuming after an eight month break looking to continue its great first-up form. The horse has never missed a placing on resumption, and has only missed a placing once in its eight race career. At its best it will be far too good for this field.
Daniel Bowman-runner Hot Hussler had, until November 3, not missed a placing in its six race career. The promising aspect of that was it was just half a length off the winner in a muddling race. The horse gets a 1kg relief from that run and we are expecting a bounce-back performance.
Race 5 tip: Hot Hussler to win at Ladbrokes
Race 6 – Benchmark 70 (1300m)
Topweight Paremuus Boy is hunting a fourth-straight win on Thursday. The son of Onemorenomore has been winning in dominant fashion, winning by a combined total of seven and a half lengths over the last three. There’s no reason to believe the winning run will end any time soon.
Farnor West is right at the other end of the weights but is also taking winning form into the race. The horse is third-up, where it has won previously at the past, and the last-start victory at the same track in a benchmark 58 race was impressive. Can surprise at odds.
Race 6 tip: Paremuus Boy to win at CrownBet
Race 7 – Port Fairy Cup (1400m)
The feature event of the day looks to be Another Coldie’s for the taking. A win would hand the horse a third-straight win and help solidify the runner as a horse of the future after winning or placing in the last five races. The Country Cup winner looks well placed to add some more silverware to the cabinet.
Our Bottino can make it three wins from four starts at the ‘Bool on Thursday. The well-travelled veteran has won at the track before and has a good record over the distance. The gelding presents the best chance of defeating Another Coldie.
Race 7 tip: Another Coldie to win at Sportsbet
Race 8 – Benchmark 64 (1700m)
Dunkeld Cup winner Unrealistic is looking to back up its terrific win in rural Victoria at the ‘Bool. The horse raises 10kg from that run which will make it hard, but winning form is good form, and doing it in a feature event is a major tick.
Set The Bar High is doing exactly that, placing second in three consecutive races. The next step for the son of Reset is to win this preparation, and there’s no reason to think that’s not a strong possibility after finishing less than a combined three lengths off all three winners. A 6kg difference on Unrealistic could prove telling.
