Chess Star was less than half a length away from winning on debut and we believe it can win at the second time of asking. There’s a number of first-starters here and the race experience will count for a lot.

Two back-to-back second placings helps us tip Divine Command with confidence. The horse hasn’t missed a placing in its last five races, which is better form than any of its competitors.

Zanahary might have placed last time out but it was miles off the pace on that occasion. We’re forgiving the last run given it has won twice and placed another time over its last four runs.

Race 4 – Benchmark 70 (1200m)

The Darren Weir-trained Scoliaro is the horse to beat here. The mare had been progressing all the way through this campaign, culminating in a strong 1.8 length win on March 2. No reason to think Scoliaro here.

Race 5 – Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge (955m)

Another Diamond resumes here and looks well placed to win again first-up. The blinkers are added, and from the perfect gate it will be very prominent over the short course.

Race 6 – Open Stakes (1200m)

Bassett is a first-up beast that can resume with a win here. From six runs the horse has three first-up wins and two placings and has a win at track and distance in the past. Bassett looks a strong hope in an open affair.

Race 7 – Alister Clark Stakes (2040m)

Cliff’s Edge drops back in grade after a disappointing showing in the Australian Guineas but it can bounce back nicely. The Weir runner is a class act and should have streets on this lot.

Race 8 – Benchmark 64 (1600m)

Moghul Empire won powerfully on March 8 at Gawler and we think it can progress from there. Although this represents a much sterner challenge an eight length win is not to be ignored.
