Caulfield tips

PREMIER racing continues at Caulfield this Saturday with a top notch nine-race card which features the Thoroughbred Club Stakes.

Despite the extra premier meeting on ANZAC Day at Flemington, the fields this Saturday have attracted great betting fields and punters will have no problem getting good value for their selections.

We have found our top tips for every race at Caulfield which starts with the Ern Jensen Funerals 3YO Handicap where there are five last start winners in the quality race.

Punters can get enhanced odds for race two at Caulfield this Saturday with Ladbrokes where every runner will be paying more than the advertised price.

Race 1 – Ern Jensen Funerals 3YO Handicap (1800m)

Soju Warrior is an impressive gelding which had every chance to win last start, but punters should be forgiving. The three-year-old finished fifth at Sandown as the $2.70 favourite and the money has come for it again at $3.30. It has won two from its last four starts and should be fighting out the finish.

Netherfield has yet to finish outside of the top two from its first four starts. The Mick Price-trained gelding looked the winner against a similar field last start, but it was narrowly beaten on the line. The son of Darci Brahma has drawn wide here which will likely force it to settle back, but watch for it late.

Judelly couldn’t have been more impressive when winning last start. The Ciaron Maher-trained gelding won by 10 lengths in a lesser-graded race, but the ease of the win was impressive and it should be taken seriously here. It has been nicely-backed into $5 and it should go close.

Race 1 tip: Netherfield to win ($4.20) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 2 – Sky High Mt Dandenong Handicap (2000m)

Anaheim has the class factor on its side after running in the Australian Guineas, Rosehill Guineas and the ATC Derby. The Busuttin/Young-trained colt was finishing off well behind the likes of Hey Doc and Gingernuts and there’s no class on that level in this. $4.60 is a value price from bookmakers.

Odeon has won three from 10 starts and it went close in the Port Adelaide Guineas last start. The Ellerton/Zahra-trained three-year-old was a stylish winner at Mornington two back and it lost no admirers when running second at Morphettville. Carrying the light weight of 54kg will be a bonus and the punters have come for it at $3.

Goathland is a former imported runner for Robert Hickmott which scored an easy win last start. The five-year-old won by 4.25 lengths over the likes of Charlevoix and that’s solid form for a race like this. It has yet to win from four fresh up starts which is the worry, but class will take it a long way.

Race 2 tip: Anaheim to place ($1.90) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 3 – No Fuss Events Hire Handicap (1200m)

Chase The Horizon was a strong winner three back at Bendigo before running two tidy races since. The Henry Dwyer-trained gelding produced a good late finish behind Miss Vista at Caulfield and it rarely runs a bad race on this track. Drawing barrier 14 makes it tough, but the $5.50 is a good price.

Mr Sneaky is the dominating $2.40 favourite following its classy win at Flemington. The Freedman-trained gelding defeated Theanswermyfriend by a nose last start and that form has since been franked. The son of High Chaparral has been given a freshen up for this and we’re expecting a big effort.

Cosmic Lights has looked good in a limited career to date and it could give punters some each way value. The six-year-old lightly-tried gelding fought well behind Burning Front in the VOBIS Gold Star last start and that form is ideal for this. Each way hope at $9.50.

Race 3 tip: Mr Sneaky to win ($2.40) at Bet365.com

Race 4 – Changing Places Real Estate Handicap (1100m)

Merriest scored a solid win last start at Caulfield and a repeat could be on the cards. The Danny O’Brien-trained filly has won twice from four starts on this track, but the heavy track could be the worry. It has yet to run on rain-affected ground so punters will be taking a risk with the $4.40.

Moonlites Choice was finishing off well behind Merriest last start and it won its only second up start. The Darren Weir-trained filly was putting in the big bounds late at Caulfield and another run at this distance should suit. It’s unbeaten in two starts in a heavy track and conditions will suit perfectly. $4.40 is also on offer from bookmakers.

Snitty Kitty led the field for most of the race last start before being caught on the line. The Dwyer-trained three-year-old has great gate speed and drawing the inside barrier is perfect for this. It has placed in both runs at Caulfield and it’s not without a chance at $5.50.

Race 4 tip: Moonlites Choice to win ($4.40) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 5 – Thoroughbred Club Cup (1200m)

Seized is a capable type for John Sadler which flew home last time out. The two-year-old settled back in the Sires’ before flashing home to run Pure Scot to within a neck. The son of Wanted has been close up in all three career starts and the $7.50 on offer is a respectable price.

Doubt I’m Dreaming won the St Albans Stakes at Moonee Valley by 2.75 lengths and that commands attention. The John McArdle-trained colt was a super-impressive winner after settling back and looping the field around the turn. It paid $13 on debut, but has been smashed into $1.70 for this after opening at $1.80. It looks the clear horse to beat.

Kobayashi was a last start winner on this track and it could lead the field throughout. The Corstens-trained colt won by 2.25 lengths in a tidy display of speed and the wide draw won’t worry it. Punters are keeping it safe at $6.50 and it should fill a placing.

Race 5 tip: Doubt I’m Dreaming to win ($1.70) at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 6 – Next Payments 3YO Handicap (1200m)

Artie Dee Two likes to mix its form, but it’s coming off a quality win over some nice types. The Weir-trained colt scored a 2.25-length win at Moonee Valley last start over Ken’s Dream and that form has been franked. Three wins have come on this track and it looks a top chance at $5 in the market.

Wise Hero won its first two career starts before running second at Pakenham last time out. The John Price-trained gelding scored a four-length win on debut at Moe before winning by two lengths at Moonee Valley. This is harder here, but there has been support at $5.

Widgee Turf hasn’t had the best of luck this campaign with three consecutive second placings. The Patrick Payne-trained gelding needs luck after settling back throughout its races and drawing barrier three should allow it to settle closer to the pace. It has a good turn-of-foot and the 1.5kg apprentice claim is a bonus.

Race 6 tip: Widgee Turf to win ($5.50) at Bet365.com

Race 7 – Lu Simon Builders Handicap (1100m)

Miss Vista is one of the most noticeable horses in Australia and punters are cashing in. The flashy mare has won four of its last five starts and it narrowly hung on against a similar field here last start. That came over this distance, which looked to be its maximum, and having that experience will help. Barrier 12 makes it harder, but consider at $3.80.

Grey Street chased hard behind Miss Vista last start and it would have won with another bound. The John McArdle-trained mare hasn’t won in awhile, but its last two placings suggests that it has found its best form again and it could take this out. It has placed in four from six starts at Caulfield and we wouldn’t rule it out at $5.

Very Choosy has a mountain of speed over this distance and is typically fires fresh up. The Robert Smerdon-trained mare has won two of its three starts fresh, but punters will be wanting to see more than it showed last campaign. It placed twice, but this is a hot field and place hopes seem best.

Race 7 tip: Miss Vista to win ($3.80) at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 8 – Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1440m)

[rmOC_events_list event_ids=1132646_08]

Charmed Harmony turned around some poor form to finish second in the Victoria Handicap last start behind Hooked. The Sadler-trained gelding dropped in grade to find immediate results on this track, where it has won three from 12 starts with four placings. It will go forward and it could return to the winners’ enclosure after a long layoff.

Whistle Baby has been knocking on the door after consecutive placings. The six-year-old was running on strongly last Saturday behind French Emotion and the form out of that race should stack up nicely. It’s yet to win in 10 starts on this track, but it’s getting close. $5.50 after opening at $5.

Star Exhibit is a new acquisition for Darren Weir after racing in Perth. The five-year-old won the Perth Cup at its last start in December and it has a professional record of 17 starts for eight wins and five placings. Drawing wide will make it tough for Brad Rawiller, but it has been specked in from $9.50 to $8.50.

Race 8 tip: Charmed Harmony to win ($3.80) at CrownBet.com.au

Race 9 – Treasury Wine Estates Handicap (1600m)

Curragh has looked good this campaign and it chased hard behind Sadaqa last start. The Busuttin/Young-trained gelding was a winner at Ballarat when fresh up and it’s a four-year-old which likes to find its feet during the campaign. It has more ability than most and the $3.70 is about right.

One of our favourite imports is Fastnet Latina, which used to do its racing in the U.S. The Archie Alexander-trained horse has won all four starts in Australia and is starting to look like a potential Melbourne Cup contender. OTI Racing knows how to spot a stayer and this four-year-old has above average talent. We’re expecting another big effort at $3.10.

The Chairman has to be considered on an each way basis. The Price-trained son of High Chaparral resumed with a nice run for third and its form last campaign deserves some respect. This isn’t an easy race, but it has the turn-of-foot to be a factor.

Race 9 tip: Fastnet Latina to win ($3.10) at Sportsbet.com.au
