Free tips & best bets for Doomben – Saturday, 22 August 2020

Bostonian

We are back racing at Doomben on Saturday with nine of the best to be run and won. The rail moves into the true position from the 3m it was in two weeks ago. With no rain forecast, we should be racing in fine weather and Good 4 conditions from 11:33am AEST.

Best Bet
Race 1 – Eelloh @ $2.25 Sportsbet

We can get off to a flyer with short-priced favourite Eelloh in the opener. The Desleigh Forster-trained daughter of Better Than Ready won on debut at $101 before being put away. She came back at the end of July with a midfield performance behind Fleetdove before turning the tables at this course a fortnight ago when well backed to win by a length over 1350m. She rises to 1600m for the first time, which looks as though it’ll suit her, and she’s drawn to do no work from barrier three under Taylor Marshall, who has partnered her at all three starts. While the $2.25 is skinny, she looks to have these covered.

Next Best
Race 3 – Astro Boy Toy @ $3.40 Sportsbet

Trent and Toby Edmonds saddle up their last-start winner, Astro Boy Toy, in the Class 3 Plate over 1200m. He was off the track without cover last time at Eagle Farm and proved too strong despite carrying 60kg. He’s had a seven-week freshen up and drops 1kg on his last performance. Barrier eight should see him positive, hopefully with cover behind the speed. He’s two from three over the 1200m and appears to have untapped potential. Race favourite Chico Milagro is coming off a four-length victory last start, but he rises in weight and we don’t think he has really beaten much. Astro Boy Toy looks a fantastic bet here.

Best Value
Race 4 – Phantom Falcon @ $8.50 Sportsbet

You won’t see many tougher wins than what Phantom Falcon produced at Eagle Farm three weeks ago. He went straight to the front with Micheal Hellyer, was headed at the top of the straight and kicked strongly to hold out the fast-finishing Starla and Euro Belle. He finds himself with 4kg less and back 50m to the 1350m here at Doomben. He should lead again and have it all his own way in front, with Snowzone the only other runner likely to push forward. He’ll have his work cut out from barrier 10, but we think he should find the fence easily enough. With the big weight relief, Phantom Falcon could take some serious running down.
