Thames tips

THAMES is one of the summer stalwarts of New Zealand and punters of all levels love seeing some thoroughbred action there.

Unfortunately some nasty weather looks to rain on the parade, but we still have free racing tips and form for the seven-race meeting and we’re hoping the skies clear for a cracking day of racing.

Staccato has been knocking on the door of a win this campaign with four second place finishes in its last six starts.

Team Rogerson has been going well of late and they always have success at this Thames meeting.

Punters should expect a good effort from Coup Bradman, which finished fifth on debut last campaign.

The Te Akau-raced three-year-old will be better for that experience and we’re expecting a good run at each way odds.

Ferrando is a natural pace maker which comes into this with winning form.

Its win at Te Rapa last start came easily by 2.8 lengths and he has taken on harder fields than this with good success.

Eprouvez is nearing a win after another placing last time out.

Jake Bayliss is coming off a group one win in the Railway Stakes and his confidence will be high aboard the five-year-old.

Desert Storm comes into this with a recent win under its belt and another tidy effort could be on the cards.

The Baker/Forsman-trained five-year-old scored by 2.5 lengths at New Plymouth and that should be a good form guide for this.

Race 6 – Thames Cup (2000m)

Brighton hasn’t won for awhile, but the Nigel Tiley stable is coming off a double at Ellerslie and this five-year-old has always possessed plenty of talent.

It should be at each way odds in a small, but quality cup field.

Race 7 – Maiden Plate (1830m)

Kane is long overdue a win and this looks like the ideal race to break maiden grades.

The Moroney/Gerard-trained runner has been running just in behind the winners throughout its career and Thames should suit nicely.
