Moonee Valley betting tips for Saturday, June 13

Best Bet
Race 8 – Django Freeman @ $3.90

The German Derby runner-up made his long awaited Australian debut a fortnight ago at Flemington with a very solid third placing behind Reykjavik and Shot Of Irish. It was his first run in 10 months and his first attempt at racing on a rain-affected surface, a test he passed with flying colours. That run at Flemington was an unsuitable distance for the Campanologist entire and his run reflected that, as he was left a bit flat-footed at the business end before getting going late. The rise in trip to 2040m around Moonee Valley will suit him, with a Group 3 win to his name in Germany over this trip. He should get all the favours from barrier one under Craig Williams. Django Freeman looks to be a promising Spring Carnival prospect and can win this second up.

Next Best
Race 7 – Plein Ciel @ $6.50

Plein Ciel has had a change of stable, leaving the Anthony Freedman yard to rejoin with Danny O’Brien. He returned nearly a month ago at Flemington with a flashing light run into third behind Iconoclasm at $41 and will be every bit better for the run. He has three wins to his name when second up and a similar record at the 1600m. Two placings on wet tracks will bode well for this assignment at what will be the 7yo’s first look at Moonee Valley. Billy Egan is riding very well at the minute and should give the gelding every possible chance from barrier four. It is definitely a classy field, but we think he is good enough to upset the favourites.

Best Value
Race 1 – Stardarmesta @ $11

The Hawkes camp saddle up Stardarmesta in the opening race on the program, a 1200m 2yo handicap. The gelding was purchased for the hefty sum of $1,000,000 dollars and is a half brother to Bullpit and She’s Got Speed. By Zoustar, he should have plenty of ability and raw speed, which was reflected in his only jump out when he finished off well into second. Dwayne Dunn jumps off Johnny Boss to take the ride. Stardarmesta maps well in barrier four and should be a great each-way bet on debut if he performs as well as connections are hoping.
