Free quaddie selections for Friday April 15 races at Cranbourne

Cranbourne races
THE bookmakers offer big quaddie pools on most Australian meetings and this week we’re targeting the Cranbourne night meeting on Friday.

The first leg of the quaddie (Race 6) starts at 8.30pm, with the final leg going at 10pm. We’ve got some exciting late night thoroughbred action in store and the big fields should increase the betting pools and the punter’s return.

Leg 1 is a rating 64 sprint with a field of 14 runners and there are six last-start winners lining up. That should make for a cracking opening to the quaddie and punters will be in for a handy profit if the race goes our way.

Leg 1 – Browns Sawdust & Shavings R64 Handicap (1200m)

Punt Club was a stylish last-start winner over a handy type in Sword Of Justice. The Pat Cannon-trained gelding has experience at Cranbourne when it finished second last month and now that it has broken through again, it should keep that form in tact. It has been well-backed throughout its career and that shouldn’t change for this.

Nat’s The Boss is a capable gelding which gets a significant rider change. Craig Williams takes over from Ben Allen and despite rising in weight, it looms as a major winning hope. In five career starts it hasn’t finished worse than third and that consistency will continue to reward punters.

Gerard Moloney lines up Oriental Ruler which won by a nose as a $1.30 favourite last start. The three-year-old by Street Boss steps back up to the 1200m where it finished fourth on debut, but it has strengthened nicely since and punters should expect a good effort.

Leg 1 selections: 4, 5, 6

Leg 2 – Procon Developments R78 Handicap (2520m)

Darren Weir lines up Paraggi which has battled at its last two starts, but it’s an up-and-coming hurdler which will appreciate this distance. The four-time winner is much better suited over the longer staying distances and there are no champions in this field. Include for a bit of value.

Expect Arch Fire to be improved having taken on some tough opposition of late. The Robert Smerdon-trained gelding is a rising nine-year-old which has placed three times at this distance and any rain will bring it right into contention. Tahlia Hope takes 3kg off its back and it looks a winning chance.

Kawabata is also a four-win mare which gets in with a light weight. The daughter of Encosta De Lago will carry 53.5kg with Ben Allen in the saddle and a good draw to jump from. It’s another which should pay good odds to boost our quaddie payout.

Leg 2 selections: 1, 6, 10

Leg 3 – Cranbourne R70 Handicap (1400m)

Despite the moderate performance from Overberg last start, it should be well-favoured to win this. Ciaron Maher has engaged Michelle Payne at 60.5kg which is a big concern, but its form last campaign was handy and it has the ability to carry the big weight.

Solar Burst has been facing tougher fields than this and going well. It finished second at Cranbourne two starts back behind Prussian Vixen and it didn’t have all favours last start at Sandown. Drops in grade here and it should go close.

Little Bita Spunk performed well in recent starts at Moonee Valley and should be included. The Magnus gelding has a good overall record and it looks a nice up-and-comer in this grade. It gets a 1.5kg claimer in the saddle and we are expecting punters to be supporting it.

Leg 3 selections: 1, 5, 8

Leg 4 – Tab Rating 64 Handicap (1200m)

Tan Tat Charger is a last start winner and that form has been franked. It defeated Tango Rock by just under a length last start and Tango Rock won easily last Tuesday. The three-year-old has another two placings to its name and it looks to have a nice future ahead of it.

Gervais is another youngster with good form to start its career. The Danny O’Brien-trained gelding placed in its only start at Cranbourne and although its form appears average, it has come against some tough rating 64 fields. It should be quoted around the $6 mark which is good quaddie value.

Bon Jet has drawn wide in barrier 12 which won’t make life easier for jockey Jack Hill, but on form it should be included. The four-year-old finished second last start when it looked the winner at Pakenham and it has the experience edge over many of its main rivals. Chance with some early luck.

Leg 4 selections: 3, 6, 9
