Wednesday racing at Canterbury - August 30, 2017

WEDNESDAY’S form guide heads to the harbourside capital of New South Wales as Canterbury hosts a seven-race card.

Last start was Friday racing in the ACT, where we tipped four winners from eight races at Canberra.

It is time to back that up and deliver the goods for our readers once again.

Race 1 – All Too Hard @ Vinery Maiden Handicap (1100m)

Three-year-old colt High Dive returns to the track following a three-month layoff and looks ready to finally step out of the maiden grade. The horse trialled well at Rosehill just over a week ago and has two second-place finishes from its three career starts.

Snowden runner Faeger is the next best candidate in the field. The three-year-old comes in following a third-place finish at Canterbury on the 18th. Since returning in July the horse has not finished outside the placings and is making headway every start.

Race 1 tip: High Dive to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – TAB.com.au Maiden Handicap (1100m)

Fifth Affair comes into the race after back-to-back second placings in April. After trialling well at Hawkesbury, it gets its chance to shake the maiden tag first up on Wednesday. The Casino Prince filly is never too far away from winning and we think the chance to shine comes at Canterbury.

Wild About Her is a Waller runner that comes into the race with terrific trial form following an extremely short layoff. The horse was not disgraced in its fourth-place finish on debut at the beginning of the month and it looks to be one of the classier runners in the field.

Race 3 – McGrath Estate Agents BM75 (2700m)

Serious Hoffa is the clear standout in this field. Great recent form has seen the son of Bon Hoffa win twice and place another time across its last four races. Nothing in the field jumps off the page to directly challenge and we are anticipating another strong performance.

Last-start winner Napoleon comes into Wednesday following a comfortable two-length win at Newcastle just over a fortnight ago. Anything close to that performance will see it challenge here. The seven-year-old either goes extremely close or bombs right out, but at its best it can win.

Race 4 – TAB BM73 (1900m)

Taikomochi is gunning for three wins in a row after two brilliant back-to-back performances. The four-year-old smashed the maiden tag in style at Wyong, winning by four lengths before cruising to victory as a short-priced favourite at Gosford just under a week later. Looks the obvious horse to beat here.

Consistent runner Leucura is the next best option behind Taikomochi here. The seven-year-old has not missed a first four since May of last year – seven straight races – and comes into this one on the back of a near miss at Narromine.

Looks to be a race in two for us but Taikomochi is the best horse here. The Waterhouse and Bott runner should trounce this field en route to a hat-trick of victories.

Race 5 – #TheRaces BM74 (1550m)

Waller gelding Fortensky is looking to continue a sensational preparation which has seen it win one and place four times from its five runs. Who are we to say the form lines will not hold up? We expect the four-year-old to push forward early from the wide barrier and put the pressure on.

The aptly named No Pushover should live up to the name in the fifth race on the card. The horse has won twice and placed in its last three runs and gets a better draw than Fortensky. We expect the daughter of Pins to be battling out the finish.

It looks to be a tricky race but we have to favour No Pushover from the superior barrier.

Race 5 tip: No Pushover to win at Crownbet.com.au

Race 6 – Schweppes BM74 (1200m)

Two ultra-consistent runners look to be the standouts here in the form of Pure Rebel and Bright Future.

Topweight Pure Rebel brings in an incredibly good record of three wins and a placing from its last four runs. The horse was given a short letup of 20 days for this race and we think it is the one to beat going into the penultimate.

Bright Future will be the hardest horse for our elect to topple. A record that almost matches our runner – two wins and two second placings from four races – means it is in sensational form and the 1.5kg relief on Pure Rebel could prove decisive.

Pure Rebel jumps from barrier four while Bright Future gets the 11 draw, which means we are siding with the toppy here. Lugging big weights means a good run in transit is imperative and we think Pure Rebel’s run will be a lot easier than that of its main rival.

Race 6 tip: Pure Rebel to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 7 – TAB Rewards BM76 (1200m)

Big things are expected of lightly raced mare Missile Coda following its three wins from four starts. At the beginning of August the Smart Missile progeny smashed the field at Canterbury to record a four-and-a-half-length win. It is the class runner of this field and should make it four wins from five attempts.

Godolphin runner Regimen is looking to go three in a row to start its career following strong wins at Canterbury and Gosford. The filly looks to be a star of the future and will be extremely hard to hold out.

Either runner could take this out but we are backing Regimen in the final race. The horse gets a 4kg advantage on the other main elect in the market in Missile Coda and we think it will prove to be too much for the topweight to overcome.

Race 7 tip: Regimen to win at Crownbet.com.au
