Free odds, form and tips for Friday racing at Canberra

Friday racing at Canberra - August 25, 2017

WE head to the heart of Australia on Friday afternoon as Canberra hosts an eight-race card to steer us towards the weekend.

The meet looks to be a terrific one and we head to the nation’s capital full of confidence following a brilliant display in Mildura where we tipped five winners from eight races.

The markets for Friday’s card at Canberra were provided by CrownBet.com.au, which is offering a healthy sign-up bonus to prospective punters.

Sign up for a CrownBet account now and you can have up to 150 per cent of your first deposit matched up to $600 in bonus bets.

Race 1 – Turners Building Supplies BM63 (1080m)

Unyielding has been impressive across its recent runs and comes into the first race on the card as one of the main hopes. The five-year-old has been racing a lot at the Canberra track and has never missed a placing at the distance. The gelding looks ideally suited on Friday.

Underoaf is another runner that has great Canberra form. A win on Friday would hand the four-year-old its third straight win, all of which will have come on the Canberra track. The horse has won twice and placed another time from three attempts at course and distance, so it looks the obvious candidate in what should be a race in two.

Race 1 tip: Underoaf to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Laminex BM67 (1900m)

Almost Court looks set to make it three in a row on Friday after dominant back-to-back performances as a short-priced favourite. No horse has got within two lengths of the lightly raced five-year-old since it resumed. The only issue is it has never placed third up but given it has only confronted that task once in its career we are willing to look past it.

Campfire has put together an ultra-consistent month and a half of racing, recording four consecutive third-place finishes. The 1900m trip will be the longest it has confronted this preparation but it has had no issues in rising distances across its last four starts.

Campfire is the main danger in the market but Almost Court looks a class above this field and should be able to scorch the field here.

Race 2 tip: Almost Court to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 3 – Duratech Industries Handicap C1 (1080m)

Snip The Mo is racing third up on Friday for the first time in its career but the horse is dominating in its second-ever preparation. Since a four-month break after its debut disappointment at Wagga, the four-year-old has finished second behind gun runner Underoaf and then won on the second attempt. There is no reason to think the good form will conclude on Friday.

Dashing Duncan is a horse that needs a change of luck. The gelding has won just once in its 35-start career, but its last two starts on the Canberra track have yielded place finishes. The seven-year-old is more than capable of taking out a second win given the track experience it has on the majority of the field.

Race 3 tip: Snip The Mo to win at Crownbet.com.au

Race 4 – Benchmarc Kitchen/Joinery Maiden (1080m)

One of the hardest races to pick is the fourth on the card at Canberra given there is a number experienced runners that have not registered a win.

Ah Chai looks to be the best of an ordinary lot. The horse is third up after a third placing at Newcastle two weeks ago. The gelding strips fitter from that run and is ready to put in a solid performance on Friday.

Nicc’s Poet finished fourth behind race three selection Snip The Mo back on the 11th. After closing from the back of the field to finish within two and a half lengths of the winner, we think an on-speed ride may suit better from the wide gate. If the horse can sneak across cheaply from barrier 13 we believe it will be firmly in the mix here.

Race 4 tip: Nicc’s Poet to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 5 – Wardrobe World Maiden Handicap (1280m)

Star For Effort is a horse we identified in our last Canberra quaddie, but unfortunately the horse failed miserably for us. A tough three-wide run did it no favours, but we are not expecting a similarly unlucky trip on Friday. That run was the only time the horse has missed a placing at Canberra.

Admire Gratzi put in a terrific performance last time out behind Bella Amante on the 11th of this month. The gelding is racing second up and will be much fitter for its last outing. From barrier six Richard Bensley will get the perfect opportunity to dictate terms and we are expecting the four-year-old to go one better Friday.

Race 5 tip: Admire Gratzi to win at Crownbet.com.au

Race 6 – Capital Veneering BM55 (1206m)

You’re Kidding Me is an experienced galloper that has raced almost exclusively in the nation’s capital across its 54-race career. In two of its last three runs the horse has placed twice, including a second-place finish behind Liabilityadjuster on the 11th.

The four-year-old Stromlo is well poised to make a big impact on Friday. The lightly raced four-year-old returns after just under a month in preparation for this race and we think the promising galloper will be hard to hold out.

Race 6 tip: Stromlo to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 7 – Infinite Joinery BM67 (1280m)

Eight-year-old Liabilityadjuster is aiming for a hat-trick of wins on Friday and looks extremely well placed to do so. The previous two wins have come at the Canberra track, and while it is a slight step up in class there is no reason why it cannot continue its stellar form.

Emerald Fortune is racing fresh after a 55-day letup and form prior to being turned out suggests it can take this race out. While the zero placings from four first-up attempts is worrying, the horse has the ability to step up and get the job done here.

We are siding with the in-form horse here. Liabilityadjuster is in career-best touch and will be extremely hard to hold out.

Race 7 tip: Liabilityadjuster to win at Crownbet.com.au

Race 8 – Pacific Stone Plate C1 (1750m)

Luke Pepper-trained Megawatt looks the standout runner in this field. Last time out in a similar field and at the Canberra track the mare saluted at a short price. We are expecting the five-year-old to jump at an equally small price and put this lot away.

Clear Sailing is our top elect to trouble Megawatt. The four-year-old only has one placing to its name from four starts but its fourth placed finish at Goulburn despite having trouble seemingly at every turn was highly encouraging.

Clear Sailing is definitely a horse for the exotic players but Megawatt is the horse to beat here for us in the final race on the card.

Race 8 tip: Megawatt at Crownbet.com.au
