Geelong quaddie

GEELONG plays host to an eight race card this Thursday afternoon and we’re taking our tipping talents to the seaside town for this week’s quaddie.

Our last quaddie was a heart-breaker. After missing out on the first leg, we had to watch our next three legs walk wins in, rubbing salt into the quaddie wound.

After a sensational weekend tipping however we are full to the brim with confidence and we are backing our team in to generate a winning dividend.

All odds this week were provided by Australia’s newest online bookmaker Neds, which is offering a matched first deposit bonus to new customers up to the value of $500 when they use the code GETON500.

Race five on the card is a Benchmark 64 race over the 1135m distance, which kicks off the quaddie at 3.30pm.

Race 5 – Benchmark 64 (1135m)

The Bont has become a Geelong course expert of sorts in recent times. Across the horse’s last six starts in the city, it has not missed a placing. The Bont knows how to get the job done in Geelong and it would be remiss of us not to include the horse in our numbers.

Astro Miss is a last-start winner at Hamilton and we think it has a real chance of going back-to-back on Thursday. The seven-year-old has won in Geelong before, and from gate 3 over the sprint journey the horse has all the factors in its favour going into this benchmark 64 event.

Layne’s Star is a last-start winner in Geelong, and a great record of one win and three placings from five attempts suggests it loves the track. The daughter of Love Conquers All is looking to make the jump in grade after a strong win last time out as a short-priced favourite and we think the horse is ready to do the business for us on Thursday.

Race 6 – Benchmark 64 (1750m)

Danehill Downs is third-up on Thursday where it has won in the past and never missed a placing. Last time out the horse ran a poor seventh behind smart operator Red Choux’s, which has gone on to place at a much higher grade. The wide barrier is a concern but everything else seems to have fallen into place.

Tigeen is a classy operator that looks to be a class above a lot of the runners in this field. The horse probably raced in the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes before its time, but outside of that run the horse has yet to miss a placing. Last time out it ran into the classy Trembling and only went down three parts of a length, so the form is rock solid for this race.

Savvy Belle is a handy horse that has been racing consistently around this mark in the last month. Although the horse is making its track and distance debut, it has great form around benchmark 64 level, placing several times. We think the horse has the ability to win at this level if recent races are any indication.

Race 7 – Benchmark 58 (1435m)

Jack’s Choice finally broke the maiden tag at the tenth time of asking just under a month ago and we think the horse can jump straight into the next level. Some horses just seem to click after they finally get that elusive win and we suspect that might be the case here.

At its best Booze Free would take this race out. The horse has a 50 percent strike at this distance and after breaking the duck at Cranbourne last time out, the 1400m and thereabouts trip may be the journey for the son of Volitant.

Ten Nuggets comes into this one on the back of a number of luckless runs. After overracing at stages during its last-start fourth at Hamilton, the horse still managed to make an impression on the leaders. The horse has the chance from barrier 12 to get across and slot into a forward position and we beliee if it can get there cheaply it’s a winning hope.

Speed Stinger is resuming after a five month break and it has raced well fresh before. The son of Reset won its debut race and subsequently failed at Echuca two weeks later, but we believe the freshness of the Aaron Purcell runner will be a big factor heading into Thursday.

Race 8 – Benchmark 70 (1435m)

Paremuus Boy is hunting a fourth-straight win and looks to be the best winning prospect in this race. The horse has been making every post a winner since breaking the maiden in October and there is no reason to doubt the ratings riser in this contest.

Jester Halo is another last-start winner that comes into this race as a definite winning hope. After placing at benchmark 70 level, the five-year-old mare dropped back slightly in grade and won convincingly at Aarart. It remains to be seen if it can win beyond benchmark 64 level but we have faith it can.

Spalding Cove is dropping back in grade slightly which can sometimes be a bad sign, but in this case we think it can result in a return to the winner’s circle. The horse has placed before at benchmark 80 level, so the class factor is there, and with Noel Callow aboard to keep the gelding’s mind on the job we think a win could be in the offing.
