Milwaukee horse racing news
Flemington favourite Milwaukee tops the betting for Saturday’s 1200m Straight Six.

Saturday’s Flemington meeting will be headlined by the Listed Hilton Nicholas Straight Six (1200m), where 14 horses will face the starter at 2:45pm AEST. Flemington specialist Milwaukee is the current $5 favourite in what is a very open affair. There will be plenty of speed engaged here with Rox The Castle, Home Of The Brave, Great Again and Holbein all likely to pursue a forward position.

Straight Six 2020 betting tips

Best Bet
Miss Iano @ $8.50 Sportsbet

Miss Iano presents as a bit of value in Saturday’s feature coming off a great run in the Listed Wangoom Handicap at Warrnambool on May 6. The 6yo mare by Equiano finished fourth that day, only a length behind the winner, Order of Command, who subsequently ran very well in the Group 1 Goodwood Handicap last week. Miss Iano has drawn barrier 14, which will be of benefit as Flemington straight races often favour the outside section of the track. Her form over 1200m warrants plenty of respect with six wins from 18 attempts over the trip. Flemington will be on the softer side of the scale on Saturday as well, which will suit her greatly with five of her eight career wins coming on a rain-affected surface. Ben Melham can ride her quietly behind the speed and finish strongly over the top of them late.

Next Best
Milwaukee @ $4.80 Bet365

The Mike Moroney-trained galloper Milwaukee is certainly the horse to beat here. On the quick backup from last Saturday, where he finished worst off in a three-way photo over the 1000m at this track, the son of Fastnet Rock is finding his form again. Jye McNeil will not be far away on the race favourite here and he should be going very close again. He has drawn well in gate 12 and can definitely add to his incredible Flemington 1200m record (7:3-2-1). The 2.5kg drop in the weights will benefit Milwaukee, albeit a drop in class. The soft track shouldn’t be of any concern with three wins from eight attempts, however if the track reaches the heavy range, it could bring him out of play with no placings from three attempts, one of which was at this track and trip.

Value Bet
Great Again @ $13 Sportsbet

Great Again can find form here first up after six months off the scene. The Lindsay Smith-trained galloper had just the one run on the east coast in November, where he only beat two other horses home. Forgiving that run, the son of Viscount has won nine of 21 and has never missed the quinella on a soft track (8:6-2-0). Declan Bates will roll forward on the 7yo from gate six and if he can get back to his form from WA, he can be right in the finish here at a nice price. Great Again generally goes well off a break and the 1200m will suit him.
