Fradd has best day at Gold Coast

International jockey Robbie Fradd had his best day since moving to Queensland with 5 1/2 winners at the Gold Coast metropolitan meeting on Wednesday.

It was a perfect birthday present for Fradd, who turns 53 on Monday.

He will miss Saturday’s Doomben meeting to ride in an international jockeys series in Mauritius, where he is a previous champion jockey.

Fradd won on Dapper One ($3), Ooshe ($9.50), Iowa ($1.80), Daring Deeds ($5) and Divine Unicorn ($1.80).

He then dead heated on Wild Ava ($2.25) in race eight.

His effort was the third best by a Queensland-based jockey at a TAB meeting, behind Jeff Lloyd’s seven at Caloundra in November last year.

Mick Dittman rode six winners at Eagle Farm in 1977.

South African-born Fradd has ridden more then 90 Group One winners worldwide and rode in Hong Kong and Singapore before moving to Queensland in 2014.

“My previous best in Australia was four at Doomben last year (October 2016),” Fradd said.

“It has obviously been a good day.”

There was a touch of luck about the day as Daring Deeds was a pick up ride and Fradd survived a protest on Divine Unicorn.
