Fracture, surgery for Gingernuts: stewards

Gingernuts will undergo surgery on his near foreleg following his scratching from the Group One Emirates Stakes at Flemington.

A Racing Victoria stewards statement said Gingernuts had been diagnosed with a non-life threatening fractured pastern and the New Zealand star will have an operation on Monday.

The winner of this year’s Rosehill Guineas, Gingernuts was cantering to start of Saturday’s 2000m race when his rider Michael Dee felt something amiss.

Dee quickly dismounted from the four-year-old which resulted in the race being delayed as Gingernuts was loaded onto a horse ambulance and taken to the University of Melbourne Veterinary Clinic in Werribee.
