TONY McEvoy-trained three-year-old Fox Hall has defied the odds to win the H C Nitschke Stakes after finding the front at the top of the turn and finishing powerfully to return $21 at WilliamHill.com.au.

Fox Hall engaged in a bitter battle alongside Plenty To Like at the 400m mark, but Damian Thornton was able to take the gelding past its opponent and clear of the field to win in stylish fashion.

Cappadocia ($7.30 at Sportsbet.com.au) surged from the back of the pack to claim second in a photo-finish ahead of Weather Channel, which returned $3.80 at Crownbet.com.au.

Race favourite Chapel City was never featured in the finish. After jumping away well the $4.40 elect was trapped wide and wilted to tail out into the straight.

The win was just Fox Hall’s second victory of its career which also took the three-year-old’s career earnings to over $45,000.
