IT’S a new racing season and the horses are another year older. The 2016/2017 metropolitan season kicks off this Wednesday at Warwick Farm and quaddie punters will be looking to start the season off well.

Big betting fields are the order of the day at Warwick Farm which kicks off with the TAB R66 Handicap at 2.57pm where Lucky Fish will be hoping to return to the winners enclosure for Mark Newnham.

Leg 1 – TAB R66 Handicap (1200m)

Lucky Fish will have to carry 61kg to victory for this, but it has the class edge over this field. The Mark Newnham-trained gelding has won only once from nine starts, but it finished fourth behind Lady Sniper in the Inglis Sprint at Randwick and it hasn’t been far away since. Tommy Berry is a master sprint rider and it could get quaddie punters off to the right start.

Pianissimo is a lightly-tried four-year-old for Chris Waller which has had three starts for one placing. The son of Northern Meteor was well backed second up at Gosford when it ran third and it was only 4.7 lengths behind Red Extension in a tough maiden field at Warwick Farm. More is expected of it now and look to the market for a positive lead.

Centro Superior finished off well behind Think Aloud last start and that form will stack up well at this level. The Gregory Hickman-trained gelding has placed on this track twice and any easing of the track is a big plus. It has won twice on the rain-affected going and conditions should suit nicely here. Include in quaddie selections.

Leg 1 tips: 1, 9, 12

Leg 2 – Theraces R67 Handicap (1200m)

Ravenwitch is fresh up for Peter and Paul Snowden and it has good fresh form. The five-year-old has had four starts for one win and three placings. It comes into this on the back of three disappointing efforts last campaign, but it is expected to resume with a good run and it shouldn’t have many problems in this class.

More Caviar has been a tough horse to train for Chris Waller, but it ran on well for fourth last start and it should improve out of that. The More Than Ready mare won at its second start at Wyong before failing to show its best form at Warwick Farm. It had more than six months off before resuming in July and it was an encouraging display. Consider in quaddie selections.

Stablemate Rakitno is having its fifth start this campaign and it wasn’t far behind them when fifth at Canterbury. The four-year-old mare was a stylish winner prior to that effort at Newcastle where it won by 2.3 lengths to break maiden grades. It looks to have enough talent to progress through the grades.

Leg 2 tips: 2, 9, 10

Leg 3 – Pro-Ride R70 Handicap (1400m)

Clarry Connors lines up Conarchie which is a five-time winner from 28 starts. The Time Thief gelding is dropping in grade after running sixth at Rosehill last start and its run for second at Randwick would take it close to winning here. The five-year-old ran second behind Super Tycoon which has gone on to record multiple wins and that form is great for midweek level.

It’s tough to discard the form of Big Arty after it has won back-to-back races at Warwick Farm. The Adam Wadick-trained gelding is aptly named and has put away two quality fields of late. It scored a one-length victory two starts back before doubling up on July 13. It can handle rain-affected tracks and it’s worth another go in this.

Choice Larga looked the winner at Rosehill last start before being gobbled up late. It sprinted hard from the barriers and led till the 100m mark before tiring late behind Super Tycoon. That form is strong and it drops nicely in grade for this. Up in weight, but it should handle it.

Leg 3 tips: 1, 2, 3

Leg 4 – Tab Rewards R66 Handicap (1600m)

Aldesaar has finally lived up to expectations with consecutive wins. The Waller-trained gelding went win-less from its first 11 starts, but it has hit top form now and both wins came on rain-affected ground. Jockey Tye Angland sticks with it and another top run is expected.

Zadok The Priest has rattled off four consecutive wins after only breaking maiden grade four starts back. The Robert Davies-trained gelding won by a half-length last start and it has relished the wetter winter tracks. The weight of 54.5kg is a big bonus so include here.

Include last start winners Granite Belt and Aurora Glow into combinations.

Leg 4 tips: 1, 2, 14, 15
