Form and free tips for racing at Sandown, Wednesday June 14

Midweek tips

GREAT value and big betting fields is the order of the day at Sandown this Wednesday where we have form and free tips.

With the winter conditions making punting life difficult in Sydney, we’ve opted to give form for Melbourne racing this Wednesday and the fields have come up aces.

The fields are averaging around 13-14 thoroughbreds which makes it great for value punters as better win prices are always on offer in bigger fields.

Sandown kicks off with the Chandler Macleod Plate at 1pm and punters can get great odds with Sportsbet.com.au.

Race 1 – Chandler Macleod Plate (1400m)

Mulk is knocking on the door of its first career win after running second at its last two starts. The two-year-old is trained at Lindsay Park and has been well-backed in defeat at its last two starts, but this doesn’t look any harder and it should get a nice run from barrier four. Expect it to be well-backed again come Wednesday.

Oracabessa also has its foot on the till after a last start placing. The Robert Smerdon-trained mare ran third at Pakenham behind Tell The Truth and the form out of that race should stack up nicely. The drop back in distance is a slight concern, but having Craig Williams in the saddle is a bonus and he wouldn’t take the ride unless he thought it was a genuine winning hope.

Race 1 tip: Mulk to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 2 – Dream Thoroughbreds Handicap (1400m)

Magwitch is a five-time winner which is having its first start at Sandown. The Glenn Thornton-trained gelding was a recent winner at Pakenham in May and it followed that up with a close finish Critical Rhythm at Geelong. It’s a three-time winner at this distance and it could be at value odds with the 3kg claimer in the saddle.

Lord Tennyson was also a winner in May, but it was unable to muster the same speed when up in grade last start. The Peter Chow-trained gelding stepped up to rating 78 grade, but found the going too tough as the $4.20 favourite. Its run prior was a solid nose win at Cranbourne as the $1.60 favourite and punters should expect short odds again. Craig Williams sticks with it.

Race 2 tip: Magwitch to place at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 3 – Hamilton Reid Accountants Handicap (1000m)

Appalachian Annie has won five from 18 starts and comes into this having scored nicely at Pakenham. The Vincent Malady-trained five-year-old is a potent sprinter and has won all five starts over this distance. It has won and placed from two starts at Sandown which reads well and it only needs a touch of luck from the outside draw to figure in the finish.

Believing finished just in behind Appalachian Annie last start and it’s good enough to turn the tables. The Robbie Griffiths-trained gelding rarely runs a bad race, especially at this distance, and it drops significantly in weight which gives it the advantage. It drops 5kg down from its last start and with the better draw we think it could take this out.

Race 3 tip: Believing to win at Sportsbet.com.au

Race 4 – Chandler Macleod Handicap (1600m)

Ruby Sea scored a tough win last start and it warrants respect in this. The Ciaron Maher-trained filly ran well at its first two races without winning, but it resumed at Cranbourne with a tough win having been posted wide in the early stages. The daughter of Sebring rises back up to the mile in which it ran second at in January, but that should suit and it should be nicely backed.

Lady Lee has been taking on some tough customers of late and has been running solidly. The Lindsay Park-trained fillt drops right back in class after running third behind Soho Ruby in a rating 78 last start and it brings a fair amount of class into this. Getting the inside draw might not be the best place for it as it likes to get back in the run, but it’s the class filly of the field.

Race 4 tip: Lady Lee to win at Bet365.com

Race 5 – Tab R64 Handicap (1800m)

Mutin battled on well last start after finally breaking through for its maiden win and it should be respected in this. The three-year-old for Lindsay Park has won or placed in all nine of its career starts to date and punters love backing a consistent type. It has placed in both starts at Sandown and drawing wide is the only negative we could find.

Bianajeuney produced a good showing when second at Pakenham last start and it should only improve with more racing under its belt. The Saan Hasan-trained mare was a quality winner at Kyneton last December, but it has mixed its form since. It’s getting back up to its preferred distances which is ideal and it won’t be far away from the action.

Race 5 tip: Bianajeuney to win at Ladbrokes.com.au

Race 6 – Now You’re In The Game R78 Handicap (2400m)

Renew hasn’t shown much form on the flat lately, but its form over the hurdles has been excellent and we’re giving it another chance. The Darren Weir-trained seven-year-old won the Australian Hurdle by seven lengths last start, but its effort on the flat in the Ramsden was less than inspiring. This is much easier and there are no superstars in this field, which is why it’s a winning chance.

Dreaded is an often underrated type for the Freedman stables, but it can pop up when least expected. The son of Shocking has placed in both starts at this distance, as its breeding suggests it would do, and it scored a solid win two starts back at Geelong. It drops nicely in weight and it could lob into a nice position.

Race 6 tip: Renew to win at CrownBet.com.au

Race 7 – Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1600m)

It’s hard to go past the form of Nangawooka and it goes into the mix again. The Matthew Brown-trained gelding is a three-time winner over the mile and comes into this having won three of its last four starts. It has drawn the inside barrier which is ideal for the four-year-old which does like to lead and it should run well again at this level.

Kawabata is fresh up after running 14th in the Adelaide Cup, but despite having no fresh up form, this is a massive step down in class. The Jamie Edwards-trained stayer doesn’t usually run well fresh, but it has run well at this distance and you won’t find a horse with more promising credentials in this race. It will likely get back in running and storm home late.

Race 7 tip: Nangawooka to place at Bet365.com

Race 8 – The Cove Hotel Handicap (1400m)

Diapason has more upside than most in this field and it comes into this after a last start win. The Chris Waller-trained mare has won two of its three starts, including a win at Cranbourne in this grade last start. It will need to work from the wide draw, but it looks an adaptable type which could win from the back if it drops out early.

Fife might fly under the radar down the page, but it has enough talent to win this. The Smerdon-trained four-year-old hasn’t won for awhile now, but it has been battling well in some good fields and it placed at its only start on this track. It can handle all track conditions and the inside draw should suit perfectly.

Race 8 tip: Fife to win at Sportsbet.com.au
