Form and free punting tips for the March 30 Bendigo quaddie

Bendigo races
THE mid-week quaddie moves to Bendigo this Wednesday with four races which all look even on paper.

It kicks off with a rating 64 handicap where there is only one last-start winner in the field and that should ensure an even spread across the betting board.

The second leg features only nine runners, but it gets tougher in the final two legs with wide open fields scheduled. The last two legs have field sizes of 15 and 17 which makes finding the winner harder, but the odds will be more generous.

The quaddie payouts have been good this year and we’d all love some more spending money for The Championships this Saturday.

Leg 1 – Rating 64 Handicap (2200m)

Remorse has won only two from 37 starts, but it is nearing another win after a string of good showings. The Ellerton/Zahra-trained mare finished second behind London Fog last start at Moonee Valley and it placed in its only start on this track. Its winning strike rate is a massive concern, especially given its price of $2.50 which is short, but it must be included.

Gilago has more upside than most in this field having won four from 16 starts. The Robbie Griffiths-trained mare won by 2.5 lengths five starts back and it looked good running third at Pakenham last start. It will have to carry 61kg which won’t be easy, but it goes into the mix at $3.

Leg 2 – Bendigo R70 Handicap (1300m)

Overberg is a talented gelding for trainer Ciaron Maher which is fresh up here. The four-year-old won its only start fresh up which is a good sign for this and its most recent run came in a higher grade than this. The son of Pentire gets a much-needed 1.5kg off its back and the $4 looks spot on.

Mr Pago drops right back in grade after running seventh in a rating 82 at Morphettville. The Peter Gelagotis-trained gelding hasn’t crossed the line first in some time, but its chances increase in this grade and the inside barrier draw will help. Bookmakers have it safe on the second line of betting which suggests a positive run is expected.

Stereosonic has been out of form this campaign, but it has ability on its day. The six-year-old has won five from 26 starts and it’s having its first start at Bendigo. This track should suit and it could add some value at a nice each way price. $7 available with bookmakers.

Leg 2 quaddie selections: 1, 3, 5

Leg 3 – Agvantage UAV R64 Handicap (1400m)

Devilishly was no match for Kalidaz last time out, but this looks slightly easier. The Hayes/Dabernig-trained filly has won once from four starts with two placings and it has already faced some stiff competition so far. The daughter of Nicconi ran fifth behind Jacqui’s Boy and then third behind Clemency. That form should hold up and it will get all favours from the inside barrier. Include at $5.

Gilarde is another consistent type which won by 2.25 lengths three starts back. The Darren Weir-trained mare has a good record at this distance and it wasn’t far behind last time out at Tatura. It has been around the mark all season and this should be no different. Looks a win hope at $5.50.

Other quaddie hopes are Firenze ($6.50) and Ecology which will boost potential payouts at $9.50.

Leg 3 quaddie selections: 1, 3, 4, 9

Leg 4 – Rating 64 Handicap (1000m)

Roughly was a stylish debut winner on this track and it could go back-to-back. The three-year-old filly won by a half-length in a good 1000m time which bodes well here. It carried 56kg to victory and thanks to a 4kg claim here, it will carry only 53kg. That brings it right into contention and it’s paying a handy $8.50.

Raggle Varr hasn’t quite performed this campaign after showing plenty of ability on debut. The Stephen Brown-trained filly won by 3.75 lengths at Cranbourne and it immediately took on higher company in the Lexus Hybrid. It hasn’t raced well up in grade, but this looks more suitable and the $6 is a good value price.

Stream Ahead is in the same boat as Raggle Varr, having raced out of its grade. The Dane Shadow filly ran eighth in the Red Roses last start and it hasn’t raced in its own grade since winning its maiden by two lengths. This is a sharp drop back in class and $6 is a good price. Plenty of value in this race which is a good way to end the quaddie.
