Saturday racing tips for Flemington

Best Bet
Race 3 – Coolth @ $2.70

Tony and Calvin McEvoy saddle up their unbeaten 3yo in the 2000m event. By Dundeel, the raw gelding has been dominant in two South Australian victories and will appreciate the rise in trip to 2000m. Senior rider Damien Oliver is booked to ride, which is a big positive. From gate 12, he will get back towards the rear and use the big Flemington track to finish strong. Both of Coolth’s wins have been on a Soft 7 track, so the slight sting out of the ground will be appreciated. Clear bet of the day for us at HorseBetting.com.au.

Next Best
Race 6 – Masaff @ $3.20

Chris Waller’s import is having just his third Australian start in what looks to be a very winnable 2520m handicap. Masaff clocked the fastest 800-400 race sectionals in his first-up run in Sydney before storming home into third in his last outing at Flemington. While only winning one from nine, he has placed in a further six races, including Group and Listed races. Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Craig Williams takes over from apprentice Michael Poy, which will be a huge advantage. Drawn in barrier one, he will be settling towards the tail and rattling home. He’ll need luck from the inside barrier, but he should be too good for these.

Best Value
Race 9 – Hi Stranger @ $11

Hi Stranger has been sent around double figures both runs this prep, returning a first-up win at Caulfield on a Heavy 8 and an admirable second behind the talented Roccabascerana at Flemington on another wet track. This time he gets to 1400m, where he has placed thrice from four starts, on a track that he races well on. Jye McNeil should be within striking distance from the inside alley in a race with plenty of speed on. The $11 does not respect the form this campaign, as Hi Stranger should be a big chance in what looks a very open 3yo race.
