Fickle Folly fights hard for Randwick win

Tamworth trainer Sue Grills plans to bring Fickle Folly back to town for the Listed Starlight Stakes after mare’s tenacious win at Randwick.

Fickle Folly ($13) put her nose down on the line to claim the E-Group Security Stakes (1000m) by a short half-head after resisting the challenge of the favourite I Thought So ($3.60).

“We’d really like to get a Listed (win) with her, she’s run third in a Group Three so I don’t think it’s beyond her,” Grills said.

Grills brought the four-year-old to Sydney for the first time in February and she made light of the journey by winning a Highway Handicap at Rosehill.

The plan is to return to Rosehill on December 3 for the Starlight over 1100m.

“She’s proved today she’s a tough little thing. She’s stronger this time,” Grills said.

“It was a tough field but I’ve always had a high opinion of this little mare.”

Grills praised veteran jockey Robert Thompson for an astute ride after Fickle Folly stayed unbeaten this preparation.

“Robert gave her a perfect ride, he never went for her until the last 200 metres. He just saved her and saved her for that last bit.”
