Feehan Stakes 2020 racing tips, best bets & form guide

Harbour Views
Harbour Views will venture to Moonee Valley this weekend for the Group 2 Feehan Stakes.

The Feehan Stakes is the second Group 2 on the Moonee Valley card on Saturday afternoon, and it looks like a launching pad for plenty of gallopers with big spring campaigns in mind. At the time of writing we’re racing on a Good 4, and Surprise Baby for Paul Preusker comes in as favourite for the gelding’s first-up run en route to the Melbourne Cup. Harbour Views opened at $6 with the TAB, and that was quickly taken by the punters. Regal Power is in the market but has been disappointing early in his Melbourne campaign, while the consistent duo Sircconi and Coming Around will look to add a Group 2 to their impressive campaigns so far.

Moonee Valley racing tips for Feehan Stakes 2020

Best Bet
Harbour Views @ $4.50 Sportsbet

Resuming for the Matthew Williams stable, Harbour Views looks well placed to add a Group 2 to his impressive record. Resuming after a 10-week spell, the six-year-old gelding is yet to be unplaced both when first up and at this distance. His main danger, Surprise Baby, ran fourth in this race last year, but the 1600m could be too sharp for that galloper considering his strong finish last start in the 2019 Melbourne Cup. Harbour Views has the ability to handle the track no matter how much rain it gets, so he will prove hard to hold out after settling just off the speed from barrier two.

Next Best
Sircconi @ $4.60 Sportsbet

Nick Ryan’s galloper has not seen The Valley since June 2018, but that should not prove a deterrent for any Sircconi backers considering his form this time in. The six-year-old was beaten a head last start in the Listed Heatherlie Stakes, and before that he missed by a neck in the Group 2 Lawrence Stakes. His form has been super consistent, which includes a dominant win at Flemington over this distance. If the track shows any form of leader bias, then expect to see his odds come in significantly.

Best Value
Mahamedeis @ $8.50/$2.45 EW Sportsbet

Coming off two strong wins, Ryan’s other six-year-old gelding returns to a track he absolutely eats up. Mahamedeis defeated a handy one in Polly Grey last start here over a longer distance, but the drop back to 1600m should not be a query. He has a career record of 11:3-2-21 and is two wins from four over this track and distance. If the course plays fairly and backmarkers can run on, Mahamedeis could be a genuine knockout chance in the Feehan Stakes.

$100 Betting Strategy
$50 win – Harbour Views
$30 win – Sircconi
$10 each way – Mahamedeis
