False rail extended for Ipswich meeting

A false rail has been installed after the winning post to ensure Friday’s Ipswich meeting can go ahead.

Ipswich has lost five meetings in recent months after little or no rain with the main problems a section after the winning post and near the home turn.

Stewards have walked the track and rated it a soft five.

They also ordered the false rail to run from past the winning post to near the 1666m shute at the northern end of track.

Racing Queensland’s racing manager Simon Stout said the weather was being closely monitored and field sizes had been restricted to 11.

“It is hard to predict the weather but the forecast for Ipswich is eight to 20mm of rain,” he said.

“Provided they get towards the bottom of that range there should be no reason the meeting can’t go ahead.”
