Epsom Handicap winner Hauraki will not defend the race and instead be rested until the autumn.

Hauraki has been a mainstay of Godolphin’s Australian team for three seasons, racking up five Group One placings before his Epsom win last year.

“Hauraki has been an outstanding performer for Team Godolphin over a number of seasons,” trainer James Cummings said.

“We’ve elected to give him a break for the remainder of the season in the hope of maximising his chances of returning to his best form in the autumn.

“He’s enjoying a break with other members of the team at Godolphin’s Kelvinside Stud at Scone.”

“There’s nothing that we expect will hold him up in the longer term and we very much look forward to his return to training later in the year.”

Hauraki has not raced since his fifth in the Doncaster Mile, the third of his three autumn starts which included a first-up third in the Canterbury Stakes behind Le Romain and Chautauqua.
